I spent some time on definitions this AM - cynic, skeptic, nihilist, pessimist, jaded

After reading through some websites, I've decided I am principally a skeptic (I previously thought I was more of a cynic, but that really doesn't fit the definition of my belief system).

This is an interesting read on the topic - https://join1440.com/newsliteracy/cynical-vs-skeptical-whats-the-difference

Dictionary definitions

cynic - a person who believes that people are motivated purely by self-interest rather than acting for honorable or unselfish reasons.

skeptic - a person inclined to question or doubt accepted opinions.

nihilist - a person who believes that life is meaningless and rejects all religious and moral principles.

Clearly there has to be some flexibility - so I am generally skeptical - but when it comes to right wing politicians in general, I float to the cynical category.

But I do try overall to be an optimist (believe it or not!)

My favorite jaded skeptic, H.L. Mencken: "A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin".

I don’t accept everything but I don’t dismiss things entirely either. And I’m generally an optimist. I have to be because when I get in cynic or pessimistic mode, my mental health suffers.

But real life dealing with people makes me more optimistic than the internet calamity that goes on.

Go outside get involved in community, it really helps.

Not in a group but have friends that garden I start my plants from seeds always too many I give them away. After I am done with my work day it is therapy time in the garden. Fresh veggies are just so good.

Growing kale, mustard greens, arugala and a few cold tolerant herbs in my little greenhouse for over winter fresh greens.
