https://www.yahoo.com/news/michelle-obama-just-announced-she-152037088.htmlThe announcement comes days after Michelle made headlines for missing Jimmy Carter's state funeral, where she would have been seated next to President-elect Trump.
The Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony will mark the second for Trump, who previously won the 2016 presidential election against former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Presidential inaugurations which represent the peaceful transfer of power from one president to another are typically attended by former presidents and their families.

(37 posts)No one should normalize his "presidency". No on should attend or participate. Dems please give back what the Magats always shell out.

(1,619 posts)Will be a farce, we all know he will be lying when he takes the oath, and the assault on America will begin. Why anyone other than repubs will attend is beyond me. Because it's the norm, the way it's always been done, isn't a valid excuse. This isn't the normal transition.
obamanut2012
(28,321 posts)NONE of them should do. This is not normal, and they shoyldn't normalizing it.
For alerters: I am supporting Dems and democracy. But my opinion is no Democrats, especially Biden, Harris, the Clintons, etal should go.

(5,428 posts)I do not hold Mrs. Obama accountable for opting out of attending Trump's second inauguration. In fact I support her decision. I anticipate, however, that the GOP and other right-wing media outlets will likely exploit this situation to the fullest extent possible. This would underscore their hypocrisy, given their lack of criticism when Trump and his entire family chose not to attend Biden's inauguration.

Good for her.
I only wish the Bidens would leave the White House doors locked and unattended for Trump, just as Trump did for them. Karma.

(313 posts)Sorry for shouting, but after reviewing Jack Smith's report, the frustration and disgust that has been boiling inside me since the election has become too much. I'm reminded of the 1948 fact-based novel, Cry, the Beloved Country. In that book South African Alan Paton attacks his country's apartheid government and predicts its eventual downfall. Unfortunately, Paton died in 1988, so he didn't live to see Nelson Mandela return from prison and be elected President of South Africa six years later.
The title of Paton's book captures my feelings well. The country that we have loved has been hijacked by a criminal cult, and half of the American people have approved the takeover by electing an evil dictator to return to the White House.
Trump is using the presidency to escape spending the rest of his miserable life in prison while Mandela did it the the other way around. He led a courageous moral fight against the neo-Nazi apartheid regimes of South Africa and was sent to prison for it. But, eventually, he returned to become president of the evil country that had oppressed him and the rest of the nonwhite majority.
And now here we are, with America's first Black president about to sit on the same platform with the MAGA cult leader and racist as he once again swears an oath he has mocked over and over and over again. I will never forgive Barack or any other Democrat who attends and watches this farce scheduled for Martin Luther King Day. Yes, cry the beloved country, cry the beloved country indeed.

(67 posts)Of all people, the giggling mass murderer, why not trump?
Both mass murderers have no respect for the constitution. Baby bush couldn't find time to condemn drumpf.
I think the dry drunk bush has a higher body count, and is definitely a war criminal.
It's one big club, we ain't in it, and they continually rub our faces in that fact. Drumpf is a threat to the country and democracy, but lets invite him to the White House, smile shake his hand and legitimize him to the world and show the voters how weak or fake or both we are in the face of a clear and present danger. No demand for recounts or anything. No investigation into Election Day domestic terrorist bombings. Nothing, but giggles all around.
It's all so disgusting to watch.

(34,662 posts)I watched her speeches during the run up to the election, and she was on fire. You don't go from speaking so much truth to power to smiling as if everything is OK.
I will never get over the fact that trump was not held accountable by our doj under a Democratic president, and I will never forgive the American people who voted to beat ourselves and our neighbors up.
It makes no sense! F everyone involved.
