(14,012 posts)Parent or Caregiver is more than appropriate. It's Parental Leave or Benefits, not "Mommy and Daddy" Leave or Benefits.
Caregiver refers to any familial or spousal caregiving, to just a parent giving care to a child.
"Mom and Dad" is a casual and somewhat infantile term used when telling recruits to remember to spit-shine their shoes for Graduation Ceremony.
First week in Boot Camp I still remember hearing the DI yell "Ladies, Y'all finish writing those letters to Mom, Dad and your Boyfriends before Lights Out..."
