Trump Fuels Crazy D.C. Plane Crash Theories With Insult to Army Pilots

Though little is known about the collision, the president said it could have been prevented.

President Donald Trump had more questions than answers in his first social post following a mid-air collision between a passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter Wednesday night outside of Washington, D.C.

The president had earlier confirmed via the White House that he been briefed on the situation, which saw a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collide with American Eagle Flight 5342, sending both careening into the frigid waters of the Potomac River near Reagan Washington National Airport.

Though no officials have confirmed fatalities, dozens are believed to be dead and emergency services were on scene throughout the night battling the freezing temperatures to rescue or recover the 67 individuals in the air at the time.

Shortly after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump had been briefed, the president took to Truth Social to wildly speculate about the situation.

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport,” Trump said. ...

Thu Jan 30, 2025, 10:52 AM

I already saw one person blame it on the ATC being a "DEI Hire" because they were female. I smacked back on that right away. I've lived in this area since 1987. Flown out of National a few times, but mostly out of BWI. The airspace around National Airport is extremely challenging. You have an airport surrounded by water on 3 sides, no-fly zones, a military helicopter base right across the river, etc. The ATCs at National are the best, because they have to be.

If there is any fault, it's on the helicopter pilot. But, sometimes a tragic accident is just a tragic accident.

My administration will set the highest possible bar for aviation safety," he says, adding you need a "very special genius" to coordinate air traffic.

Instead, he says the FAA was "actively recruiting workers who suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions".

The anguish Trump is showing in trying to explain it is not his fault!

Condolences to those affected by this event, but when people start to die because Trump did something stupid in the past, a really strong response is needed to prevent it happening again.

Trump has two concepts in mind . . . people like air traffic controllers don't do anything important or useful, and they are costing him money - his money.
(Yes, Trump considers government money his money.)

This didn't need to happen.

EDIT: A proper President would be on National TV with a message of condolence and a promise to have this properly investigated and to throw resources at the situation so this wouldn't happen again.

Instead Trump gets on Truth Social and 'explains' whose fault it was.

The man is not human.

Expectations were low ahead of the president's comments on the Flight 5342 crash. With his ugly and partisan rhetoric, Trump failed to clear a low bar.

FOTUS little dick DonOld is such a fucking douchebag! Lives were lost motherfucker, but you just don’t give two shits. That’s all I’ve got…

Following deadly plane crash, Trump blames Democrats, DEI without evidence

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-rails-dei-response-deadly-american-airlines-army-helicopter-cras-rcna190024

As the morning progressed, the White House announced that the president would offer additional public remarks on the tragedy, which offered Trump an opportunity to do what he failed to do overnight. Instead, he made matters vastly worse. As NBC News reported:

President Donald Trump targeted former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in his remarks on the deadly D.C. plane crash, saying Biden’s “policy was horrible.”

To be sure, expectations were low ahead of the Republican’s public remarks on the disaster. Trump hasn’t exactly earned a reputation for excellence when it comes to post-tragedy responses.

But the incumbent president failed to clear a low bar....

Asked if the crash was caused by diversity hiring, the president said, “It just could have been.

A reporter pressed Trump to explain how, exactly, he came to the conclusion that diversity had something to do with the crash. He replied,
https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:4llrhdclvdlmmynkwsmg5tdc/post/3lgxx5xvep52q?ref_src=embed&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fiframe.nbcnews.com%252FztPgv5y

Around the same time, asked whether he’s “getting ahead of the investigation,” Trump went on to say, “No, I don’t think so,” adding that he didn’t consider that a “smart question.”

https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:4llrhdclvdlmmynkwsmg5tdc/post/3lgxwtxgswz2m?ref_src=embed&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fiframe.nbcnews.com%252F4ZMvAdD

So to recap, as recovery efforts continue, Trump responded to a deadly crash by blaming Democrats, DEI, the FAA, a former cabinet secretary, and unnamed pilots.

"Listen, it’s one thing for internet pundits to spew off conspiracies, it’s another for the president of the United States to throw out idle speculation as bodies are still being recovered and families are still being notified," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said after the press conference. "It just turns your stomach."....

In 2025, Americans simply can’t count on their president for reliable and trustworthy information in the wake of a tragedy.
