Things to know about the Trump administration order on miles per gallon for cars and pickups

Rolling back way more than just what Biden accomplished. Or Obama.

Hours after being sworn in as the new U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy took aim at the main way the federal government regulates miles per gallon for cars and pickup trucks — also a principal way that it regulates air pollution and addresses climate change. Duffy ordered the federal agency in charge of fuel economy standards to reverse them as soon as possible. The standards have been in place since the 1970s energy crisis and were intended to conserve fuel and save consumers money at the gas pump.

Duffy says eliminating the rules will increase Americans' access to the full range of gasoline vehicles they need and can afford.

Others disagree. “This will raise consumer’s costs at the pump, increase tailpipe pollution and jeopardize U.S. automakers’ future, and no one voted for any of it. The only beneficiaries will be oil executives and China’s auto industry, which will be happy to sell electric vehicles around the world with little U.S. competition,” said Dan Becker, director of the Center for Biological Diversity’s Safe Climate Transport Campaign.

All our accomplishments to move forward are being reversed. The “r” after their name should be changed to the reverse party as they’ve even abandoned their republican values they used to claim

That is why they are sabotaging the science.

These. People. Aren't. Stupid.

It's their voters that are too stupid or too racist to care about the damage inflicted.

Edited to add: The ones who sit it out may be the stupidest of all, either from ignorance or narcissism

From what to what? From miles per gallons to gallons per mile?

I don't think the manufacturers will throw away all that research that improved power without sacrificing economy all these years.

They want to be able to continue without much in the way of interruptions.

overrules every attempt to return to higher standards. We could be stuck with these courts a lot longer than Trump, and nothing would recover for the foreseeable future.

They are well aware that this is a short term thing. The standards will be back in a few years

If they won’t develop efficient, non-polluting cars, then they won’t be able to sell elsewhere. Sue, they might sell up to 1 million in the US, but would give up 20 times or more of they can’t meet
