I'm not at all suggesting that we don't call or write our reps. I'm not suggesting that we just give up or that
everything the right wing has done is a fait accompli. Their current success is due to the fact they considered any and all means to
achieve power while the left confined their mental meanderings to what was legal or ethical. That's not a flaw. Our moral compass
and well defined ethics is what differentiates us from the right. That said, in the game called "fuck you" they seem to have
prevailed at least for the present. I have asked this many times and each and every time it sinks like a stone; but undeterred, I will
ask again. Why don't we have an ecosystem of think tanks that represent OUR ethos? Why don't we have our own
educational institutions (in contrast to places like Liberty U) or an open source K-12 curricula that actively promotes OUR ethos?
I'll suggest it was because in the first case we bet on the basic decency and moral compass of our co-citizenry to ultimately make the ethical choices at the voting booth at least in the long run. But it seems like this mindset was naively privileged. As John Maynard Keynes wrote, The long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead.
To the second case, I live in a red state and our governor and his apparatchiks are out to destroy public education by defunding it. They'll probably succeed. Home schooling (most home schooling) has long been the provence of various non-mainstream - some would say wack-a-doodle parents. However, what if the public schools are now going to be mandated to teach lies and omissions to your children? Why can't we have our own complete home study curriculum that stresses human values, science and a world citizen mindset? Educators, please chime in.
We know the constitution is flawed. In some respects, it's great... but there are several non-trivial problems. Let's write a new one.
Even if it's merely an 'exercise' let's publish and promote it. I'm sure there are some constitutional law experts hereabout. I know what you're saying...why do this? I say because there will be a time that such an outlandish proposition may be ready for prime time and we have to be ready then, not a day late and a dollar short. Outlandishness didn't stop the Heritage Foundation. They're moral degenerates and crazy Christo-fascists - but they dared to dream big and that's why we're in this fucking mess.

This Koch family has monopolized industries including oil, food, industrial products, and wood products. They've worked against the NEW DEAL since it's inception, their father worked with the Nazis and Stalin during WW2 to make money in the oil industry, they've captured our SCOTUS, REPUBLICAN CONGRESS, and the Presidency with their Puppet to enact the Project 2025 which is their rewrite of the Constitution.
We either have a Constitution of laws or lawlessness. That document is a living document with amendments, articles, and acts to grow from or change.
Anyone trying to overthrow it is a traitor and should be dealt with appropriately. At this moment our institutions are filled with traitors and Patriots that need our support to do their job!

(7,215 posts)People can write whatever they want, that does not mean others will respect and follow. This is the problem we are having.
We've allowed to many people to skate by, with unlawful actions and equal justice, that is why we are having a problem. Money bought favor. Ex. ELON RIGHT NOW. If this was the 1980s he would have been shot on-site.
We need to remove the 6 traitors that are not willing to uphold the Constitution and appoint Judtices willing to do so, with equal justice.

(3,115 posts)They are scared as shit and probably with good reason. I know that people can write whatever they want - but I'm saying that we
need to be bold and look to the LONG GAME. There is no means we have to "remove" anyone from the SCOTUS.
