(123,518 posts)That's the name used by the Inuit people who live there now and had already been there for centuries when Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland and decided to call it Greenland (Old Norse Grnland) to induce more settlers to come there. "He said people would be attracted there if it had a favourable name." Maybe using the name Kalaallit Nunaat would make it seem less attractive to muppets like Congressmoron Carter.

(123,518 posts)I think we should always use Kalaallit Nunaat when referring to that large island in the Arctic.

(19,784 posts)Greenland's terrain includes an ice sheet, glaciers, fjords, tundra, mountains, and a rugged coastline.
Ice sheet
The world's largest ice sheet outside of Antarctica, covering about 85% of the island
The ice sheet is up to 11,070 feet thick
The ice sheet's elevation rises from the coastline to the east-central interior
The ice sheet's weight has pushed the central part of the island's bedrock below sea level
Tundra
A flat, treeless landscape with whipping winds
Permafrost, or frozen soil, sits beneath much of the Greenland's tundra
Fjords
Stunning fjords are a feature of Greenland's landscape
Mountains
Many mountains rise to well over 10,000 feet
Gunnbjørn's Fjeld is the highest point at 3,693 m
Coastline
Rugged, mountainous, and barren
Mostly rocky
Ice cliffs
Ice cliffs that are 100,000 years old can be seen around the edges of the ice sheet
Landscape forms
Moraine ridges, kame terraces, and marginal deltas are formed at the ice margin
Plant life
Tundra vegetation, such as sedge and cotton grass, is common
Plantlike lichens are also common

Hows about red white and blue trumpland?
Americans really need to examine their heads, because the crap coming out of them has serious issues!

(3,574 posts)We should counter with A Modest Proposal - how many will discuss it in Congress and how many will be outraged at the Dems over it. There just needs to be someone to introduce it as legislation.
