A Lincoln (NE) man went to court on a misdemeanor charge. He wound up in ICE custody

LINCOLN — A 26-year-old Lincoln man who went to the Lancaster County Courthouse this week expecting to make a routine appearance on a misdemeanor charge ended up being taken away by ICE agents, his attorney says.

Now, the man's wife, who is 6 months pregnant, is on her own with their child, the family's breadwinner sitting in a jail cell in Council Bluffs, Iowa, awaiting immigration proceedings, attorney Carlos Monzón said.

"It's a very, very sad situation," he said.

He said if the idea is to remove convicted felons, he gets it and he understands it.
