GOP gains in voter registration raise red flags for Democrats

Republican gains in voter registration are raising red flags for Democrats in key states, underscoring the inroads the GOP made across the country in 2024.

Active registered Republicans now outnumber Democrats in battleground Nevada for the first time in nearly two decades, according to January data from the state. The GOP has also gained recent ground in New Jersey, a traditionally blue state, and Trump this week celebrated that the voter registration majority in Florida’s Hillsborough county switched from blue to red.

The latest shifts, following eroding Democratic registration in states like Pennsylvania and Arizona last year, underscore the work that lies ahead for Democrats as they look to rebuild and retake power in Washington.

“People switch the way they vote, then they switch their registrations. And you think about Nevada and New Jersey, those are two states that saw pretty significant shifts towards the Republicans in November,” said Marc Meredith, a political science professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

R’s and D’s are basically tied now. Looks like the big winner was Non with an increase of 269,000 voters. I don’t know any Nons who are Trumpsters.

trump at least 4 nights a week. The View, etc., are the same.

There were very few voters -- if any -- that didn't know trump was a fraudster, cad, rapist, liar, Nazi, stupid, and worse. Yet, he won by saying, and now doing, the things that get trumpster off. Voters just didn't care, preferring trump to decent politicians.

It's way too early, to determine what's going to happen in 2026.

As long as they watch Fox Noise, they will believe that night is day, that black is white, and that cyanide is good for you.

Young voters were led to believe that Hillary was a corporatist, both parties are the same, "how we voted not as important as that we voted," and other similar bullshit that turned otherwise would-be Democrats into no-party-affiliation Independents. Not only did that propaganda hurt Democrats -- it directly propelled Trump into the White House the first time around, which led to his being elected the second time around and all the intentional destruction we now see.

Having said that, the situation isn't as dire as it seems because many of these voters will still vote for Democrats in the end -- the question is will it be enough to win the elections we need to win? Obviously in 2024, it was not.

When you steer the car into a ditch... one tends to be more cautious around ditches...

Or they end up in the ditch a second time... or third time.

Surely you are referring to those that sat at home or voted third party because they ignorantly believed Republican and Russian propaganda -- not Democrats, right, fellow Democrat that supports the Democratic Party on this website devoted to supporting Democrats?

You see... as I tried explaining months ago, and was ignored.

This IS NOT Daddy's Democratic Party.

The desire to "grow the tent" has ripped a huge hole in that tent and reliable voters leaked out.

Look at exit polls and look at the numbers for traditionally reliable groups.

W... tell me. WHY did we lose ground with blue collar workers and some blacks and hispanics?

WHY THE HELL... no. HOW THE HELL did we allow the GOP to assume the role of the populist party, friend of the "little guy"?

WHO is responsible for turning the Party to the RIGHT?

Remember when the Party used to support the ACLU and today many seem to want to control speech

Remember when the Party thought of Americans at the top priority?

Remember when the Party rallied against Shrub and his illegal war? And military adventurism?

The current situation is self-inflicted.

It's OUR choice now.

Continue to LOSE or change course.

But I'm afraid too many people will be advocates of doubling down on what failed INSTEAD of making the wholesale changes to WIN in the future.

PS - Doubling down on what failed in 2020 is what led to Republicans winning in 2024, did it not?
