Gotta think the real hardcore Confederates will find this a sort of weakling half-measure.

Good for Roland Bragg, though!

So they are actually following the law.

I have no problems with keeping the old names and changing who they are named after

They got the Bragg name back exploiting a loophole and acting in bad faith.

It now honors a hero instead of a traitor. Nevermind the MAGAts will still claim a victory and still reference the old first name.

This insanity cannot possibly be sustained for four years.

I give Chump and Musk their "honeymoon" until the first hurricane hits this summer.

It's nice his record wasn't one of 18 million or Army Records burned at the National Personnel Records Center fire in 1975. Must have put a call out to all Braggs to see who might still have records that showed serving with distinction.
Ya, I'm cynical that way.

Is Platoon Leader Hegseth going to pay the costs of doing this out of his own pocket? It's not just signage here, although that's going to cost a ton of money. There are also many regulations that list Fort Liberty which will now have to be changed, Department of Defense message routing has to be updated...

grab more Executive power.

The language in the 2020 NDAA, which Trump signed into law in December 2019, entitled “Prohibition on names related to the Confederacy,” received little media attention at the time, but legal experts and Naming Commission members believe it ensures Congress would have to change the existing law to allow Trump to revert Army bases to their former, Confederate-linked names.

“In naming a new asset or renaming an existing asset, the secretary of defense or the secretary of a military department may not give a name to an asset that refers to, or includes a term referring to, the Confederate States of America… including any name referring to … a person who served or held leadership within the Confederacy; or a Confederate battlefield victory,” the 2020 NDAA reads. The legislation further defined assets as including “any base, installation, facility, aircraft, ship, equipment, or any other property owned or controlled by the Department of Defense or a military department.”

Bragg is generally considered among the worst generals of the Civil War.[1] Most of the battles he engaged in ended in defeat. Bragg was extremely unpopular with both the officers and ordinary men under his command, who criticized him for numerous perceived faults, including poor battlefield strategy, a quick temper, and overzealous discipline.[1] Bragg has a generally poor reputation with historians,[1] though some point towards the failures of Bragg's subordinates, especially Major General and former Bishop Leonidas Polk—a close ally of Davis and known enemy of Bragg—as more significant factors in the many Confederate defeats under Bragg's command. The losses suffered by Bragg's forces are cited as highly consequential to the ultimate defeat of the Confederate States of America.[1]
