The CEO of the Ford Motor Company has warned that President Donald Trumps tariffs threaten to blow a hole in the U.S. auto manufacturing industry.
Jim Farley spoke out this week about the 25 percent across-the-board trade tariffs looming for Mexican and Canadian imports to the U.S., including for steel and aluminum, and warned that it could trigger major job losses in Trump-voting states.
Canada is the biggest source of U.S. imported steel, which is key to the American auto industry, and the tariffs importers like Ford will have to pay will significantly hurt American consumer prices and competition with foreign vehicles.

(9,212 posts)Ford does not have good reviews I think in terms of longevity. Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Subaru, and some others have much better reviews. I also discovered that Ford I think it is maybe although Ive kind of gotten it all confused and their luxury brand dont make cars anymore except for the Mustang, dont quote me on this because I got all of the American car brands mixed together a lot of the time. Its all suv and trucks now.
Nissan is not as good though in terms of repair records. Hyundai is also pretty good in terms of longevity. I can say that because Im driving a 20 year old Hyundai. 😹

(4,920 posts)Might initially cost more - but low maintenance cost, very few problems and the thing will run forever.
We had some Toyotas a long time ago. I have not test driven them yet. They are definitely more in demand but also more expensive as you said. Im still not sure yet if I will be buying used or new. Im going to have to downsize my car if I buy new, which I dont want to do because Ive driven midsize larger sedans, and it saved my life in accidents.
My current car is 6 cylinder which I prefer, but most only have 4 cylinder now.
