And for God's sake, MSNBC, when the Dems are protesting live somewhere or doing live hearings SHOW IT LIVE. Jezus, they show trump live every time he beckons them and force us to listen to his lies.

Call it "voted off the island by MAGA" - bring a wholesome red state family or community leader who was devastated by the impacts of DOGE cuts to research or support systems:
who lost housing in areas where there is no affordable housing,
Low income families who had hundreds of dollars taken out of their accounts to pay suddenly removed federal grant money (February deposits) that would have paid for critical utilities they had already used,
Jobs lost where there are few as a federal site was shuttered, or department decimated,
Lives lost or impacted critical health care or pharmacopoeia/therapies lost where research or subsidies were taken away,
Citizens who were cheated of thousands of dollars by scam businesses or investments as consumer guardrails were removed - or became critically ill or died due to cuts at the FDA or CDC, allowing corporations to ignore contamination in products or disease vectors if it might impact their profits,
Individuals impacted by hackers who got into their accounts or personal information, who lost life savings, or found a criminal had used their personal information open accounts and to commit financial crimes.
Communities that lost their economic drivers when critical infrastructure projects were cancelled, or manufacturing, or agriculture businesses dried up...

"Barksdale, LA and Minot ND - You've both been voted off MAGA Island...
You've lost these units at the bases,
these departments in other Federal sites impacting this number of employees,
this much funding in infrastructure and these federal grants, taking this much money from the local economy and impacting these local businesses, and
lost this much in individual HHS grants, taking food, housing, and utilities support from this number of families.
The DOGE has spoken. Hand over the keys to your houses and businesses to Donald Trump and go find a tent at the camps."

But sadly sarcastic. It seems to be the only way some people experience the world.

The MSNBC evening shows i watch don’t show trump any more than they can help. During the election, they pretty much blacked out his rallies, except for occasional short clips of something that was particularly noteworthy.

If the daytime shows are showing a lot of live stuff as it's happening, they may feel they have to just because he's potus. Which sucks, but then the whole thing sucks.

They are horrible and I have stopped watching them, but recently when the Dems finally started protesting live at government buildings and even holding their own hearings during the day, they did not cover them live. I tuned in to see if they would because the Dem events were going on at that moment. And they never did. Yet they show every second of trump events live complete with the fawning white house press corps.
So back to watching evening shows only. Still, the evening shows don't show the Dem events either, so basically, they just aren't shown.

Rachel (who is on every night for You Know Who's first 100 days) has been showing clips of the protesters and Dem politicians who are speaking at these events, which is nice. (I can't remember if Lawrence has, too; i watch them back to back and can't always remember what was on which show.) But not covering those things while they are happening is a serious omission, imo.

Good morning.

I’m joined by every member of the Senate Democratic leadership. We are here today as one party, united in opposition to Donald Trump. Over the last 24 hours, my caucus in the Senate has met with the entire House Democratic Caucus led by Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. We are in total united agreement—our party will stand in opposition to Trump’s tyrannical regime. This is a president who operates outside the law. There is no compromise, no business as usual with an aspiring dictator.

The Democrats are the party of governance, and it’s with deep deliberation that we’ve come to the sobering conclusion that any cabinet or judicial nominee, any piece of legislation that we sign on to—is complicit in Trump’s bad-faith effort to destroy government and enrich himself and billionaires like Elon Musk. Therefore, Democrats will be voting “NO” to the Trump agenda, and we will make it our mission to earn your trust and explain our decisions every step of the way.

No real need for him to travel to D.C. The man deserves some time with his lovely family, but could still put out regular pod casts, addressing GOP activities in timely manner. It won't change the most self deluded maga minds, but it could be a force of education, in depth analysis, and pop open some eyes/minds among those who find it all too much to sort out on their own.

Am hearing that 'team Pete' is energizing, and not necessarily just in support of a campaign. Those people are smart, well balanced, and honorable.

... they are the Opposition, they need to act like it, and not like they're mildly distressed rednecks waiting for the big lottery win that will make them millionaires.

It's especially important given the current Administration is going to lie six ways to Sunday about anything and everything, and it is important that some version of the truth be public record to ameliorate this somewhat. Mr Buttigieg would be an excellent choice for the public face of this Opposition.

Pete would know how to do it. I'd love if it looked like Cuomo's daily briefings during Covid, which frankly kept New Yorkers sane in the days when we had no armor or weapons against the foe we were facing. But whatever Pete came up with, I'm sure it would work.

And another thing we need to be doing daily is getting out the personal stories of everyone's neighbors whose lives are already being ruined by this crap.

Begin each one with "You and your family are less safe today because..." Then give one reason. That's it. Keep it brief. As an example "You and your family are less safe today because your social security number and bank account numbers were allowed to be accessed by unauthorized people." Talk straight to the amygdala.

You get the rest of my unused valentines.

This is the kind of thinking we need.

Similarly I have suggested that Dems should develop a "National Conversation" (give it any name you like) program that brings together prominent, trusted, thoughtful people from all across our society. Certainly not just partisan Dems and liberals, and certainly not just politicians. But people who will talk honestly about where we are as a society and where we need to be going. I think this could be a very popular program if it happened, say once a month or even 4 times a year -- a regular enough schedule that people would follow it.

I'd like ti see it covered by the legacy media as well as streaming/podcasting/all of the above. It could be organized by a respected group like the League of Women Voters.

Politicians tend to be followers, so it should not be dominated by politicians. But certainly all the past Presidents, VPs and prominent national leaders should be invited in the rotation. It should include people like Cher, Dolly, Beyonce, and many more from the entertainment world. It could include Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and other successful business people who could lend expertise on practical economics. There are many thoughtful people in sports, such as Lebron James, Steve Kerr and many others. Some great thinkers like Neil deGrasse Tyson. Authors like Stephen King. Late night hosts. Many more. The common element is no lunatics, and no spewing of talking points. They would need to have an honest dialogue, acknowledging pros and cons of each others' positions, showing respect for the intelligence of the American people.

I really think this could become a must-see program if packaged and presented smartly. And this is the kind of program that could drive news cycles. The legacy media could spend the following week with "The other evening, we heard Mary Barra of GM say ... and people have been talking about what Brad Pitt and Pete Buttigieg had to say about that. We'll take a further look ..."

The key thing with both of these ideas is for Democrats to take the initiative and not just sit silently while the Republicans burn everything to the ground.
