By Ben Meiselas

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for coffee together.

In today’s coffee chat, I want to discuss Republicans getting rude awakenings at town halls across the country, including in ruby-red Republican congressional districts.

People are pissed at Trump and Musk and are rising up. Pour yourself a coffee, tea, orange juice, or water, and let’s talk about it.

Go back to my posts from a few weeks ago, and I predicted this was going to happen.

The MAGA Republican Congress members who have been zombified by Elon Musk’s social media platform assumed they would return to their congressional districts like conquering heroes since Musk’s algorithm and his bot army told them they were doing a good job.

But in the real world, America has become a powder keg on the verge of exploding as Trump and Musk have crashed our economy, destroyed our alliances, gutted our government, demeaned and dehumanized workers, invaded our privacy, and fought only for billionaires and Putin.

We’ve been covering the town halls in areas from Georgia to Wisconsin to Oklahoma and elsewhere.

Voters are enraged about what Trump, Musk, and their group of 19-to-25-year-olds with names like “Big Balls” have done to our government and to our lives.

Republican Congress members fled their own town halls like cowards, and most others canceled their town halls after their constituents rose up and called them out.

On the other hand, Senator Bernie Sanders hosted a fully packed event in Nebraska, where he rallied workers.

The movement that is brewing isn’t so much about political parties. It’s about the rage and wrath of American workers and regular Americans who are being trampled on by a group of cartoonishly villainous billionaires like Musk and Trump.

Musk’s algorithm may control X, but it doesn’t control the moral compass of most Americans who are letting their Congress members know how pissed they are.

This energy we are seeing will continue to grow.

It will translate to protests growing bigger across the country.

Trump is already the MOST DESPISED president in history at this point in his time in office. It will get worse for him. Much worse for him.

As Trump gets rejected and feels the heat more, he will continue to spiral. He makes all the worst decisions under pressure and doubles and triples down on digging holes deeper.

What I expect to happen will start to accelerate quickly. We are seeing the cracks form and get bigger. Buckle up.

It is the honor of my lifetime to be in this fight with you.

I am not sure if you know this about me, but back when I was a civil rights litigator, I led major protests in Bakersfield and Los Angeles against corrupt government officials who inflicted unimaginable pain on the families I represented.

I feel that my experience there, along with previously being Colin Kaepernick’s lawyer when Trump attacked him in 2017 and my work in media, has armed me with the tools and prepared me to effectively lead the MeidasTouch Network and the MeidasMighty resistance to Trump and Musk’s tyranny. I know I am prepared to meet this moment.

I am so honored and humbled that our reporting at the MeidasTouch Network has invigorated the spirit of tens of millions of Americans and helped turn feelings of complacency and helplessness into a feeling that we can fight and win against these corrupt tyrants.

By the way, before I forget, here are some photos from the protests I led and a photo from my case with Kaepernick that I haven’t shared in a while.

I don’t know if he is right about where it is going and when it will get there, but it is good to consider he could be right.

I feel strongly that trump is the most despised and loathed person on the planet—I believe more than Putin. Not just in US history, but internationally. Trump is making enemies globally, whereas it seems that Putin’s evil is more limited in scope as far as location. I don’t see how things can continue to go well for someone who is so universally detested. Sooner or later someone just might do something about it.

‘Cause they’re AFRAAAAAAAAAAID!!!

Repubs are on shaky ground because, as it says in the essay, they were expecting praise and hosannas and showers of flowers, and THAT AIN’T HAPPENIN’!!! Their GOP tricks and focus-tested talking points aren’t working, and they don’t know what to do about that.

I hope they keep on stumbling. I hope they’re popping Rolaids every day. I hope they cling to big bottles of booze they can guzzle, to drown their sorrows in. I hope sex doesn’t even work to distract them from their miseries anymore. I hope NOTHIBG is working for them, and stays that way.

They’ve fucked my beloved country and screwed over A LOT of people. Tens of MILLIONS of people. And I hope all those people rise up.

Exactly the case. Dems pissed away this election framing it about abortions and pronouns. Those are important issues, but that's not where the rage is. The rage is around economic unfairness, and that predates Trump's rise to power.

Through 2004, for decades, the Gallup "Right/Wrong Direction" polls shewed periodic pendulum swings from 30% right to 70% right, regardless which party held the most power. Since 2004, "right direction" has only been just slightly over 40% for one brief moment. Americans are pissed, and they are pissed mostly about the economic unfairness issues that Bernie, Elizabeth, AOC and precious few others have been talking about. The Dem Party is oblivious to all of this, even angry that we aren't falling right in line, sending them money when they are doing absolutely nothing to provide leadership, especially on economic fairness issues. It makes people conclude that the Dem Party is mute because they are more aligned with corporate money than with working Americans.

It is no surprise that Bernie is still getting strong support. He is one of the few politicians who has not sold out the average worker.

We need major changes at the top of our party.

It is not just me saying this. I get bombarded by Dem Party requests for donations every day. This morning I got the usual assault on Facebook, so I decided to read some of the comments. I expected to see some people with views as I have expressed, and many others with loyal rank-and-file allegiance to the party. Instead, I read the first 100 comments, and every one of them was angry with the party -- most even more critical than I am.

Yet the party is oblivious and still keeps asking for my money. They are not listening.

This reminds me of The Tea Party that arose after the bank bailouts. Somehow the Republicans were able to twist that fury to their advantage and hang banks !BANKS! around the necks of Democrats. Banks have been the mainstay of the Republican Party since the beginning of time but we got painted as the party that saved their bacon.

As much as I liked Obama, he and Holder screwed up big time by not bringing charges against the banksters. Letting them all walk for the sake of campaign contributions was a colossal failure. We need to learn from that and pin this on the crooks and charlatans that own it.

Completely ignoring the human toll with the massive loss of manufacturing jobs and the national strategic value of maintaining a heavy manufacturing capability, saving the auto industry was a big financial benefit to the US taxpayers. Yes, we put some money up front, but as a result, there were a million people paying taxes (and still are) instead of drawing government benefits. And we got much of that up-front money back when the government later sold its shares.

But instead of this being a huge success story, the Republicans we able to convince voters that this was a bad thing. And they got away with that because Democrats have never had consistent messaging. Most of the time, elected Dems don't ever bother to make our case at all, until 60 days before the next election. You have to be out there every day. You have to tell the story 100 times. You need 100 voices telling it 100 times to 100 reporters using 100 media channels.

Another similar case in point: when the oil barons were jacking up the gasoline prices a couple of years ago, Biden turned the tables on them by making a major sale out of the reserve. That drove down the oil barrel price, solving the problem. And then the administration bought oil to replenish the reserve, but paid a lower price to replace the oil, making many billions of dollars of profit for the taxpayers. This story barely got told. That is political malpractice. There is no room for modesty in politics. And no room for laziness.

My Indivisible group has set up there to hold protest signs ever since the donald was first elected. It’s usually been sporadic Saturday afternoons for an hour. And there have been people driving by and honking their approval. But THIS past Saturday, WOW! From the moment we assembled, they were honking, and soooooooo many! MUCH bigger and more enthusiastic response than ever before!

Our group was bigger, too. Usually it’s been a handful of us - 3 or 4. But this past Saturday, SEVENTEEN!!! I couldn’t believe it! And from two other groups besides our Indivisible regulars! I’m pretty much a regular at these things, too, and I was really surprised! Never saw this much support - and ALL enthusiastic! We may make it a weekly thing, like we did during Election season. Hey, ANY outward signs are good! The solidarity and comradeship certainly was!

Maybe it’s the start of a new trend? Dunno but I’ll report back after the next one, which I think (and hope) will be next Friday.
