There were a lot of Dem protests in the House chamber last night. All need to be respected

...and not dragged with projections of people who have far less political chops than elected officials in office, legislators who ran and won actual political campaigns of opposition to Trump and republicans, dedicated pols who have exercised far more opposition to republicans than their detractors.

I'm glad some walked out, and happy others stood their ground to call out Trump as he spoke, But so many have misinformed here about the opposition Dems waged last night, and just demagogued people for not filling out these critic's own projections.

It wasn't just Al Green that walked...

Jake Sherman @JakeSherman
Democrats now walking out in droves. Huffman, Omar, Jayapal, Raskin, Lofgren all just walked out.

Chris Van Hollen out now too.

Pocan and Doggett out now.

More Democrats are leaving as Trump talks about Ukraine. Takano, Castro.

Bernie Sanders just walked out of the House chamber.

House Democrats are now yelling "Jan. 6" as Trump talks about standing up for law enforcement.

...a number of House Democrats are now holding up signs that say "false"

Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Madeleine Dean has been in a number of conversations with sergeant at arms staff, pointing at the Republican side of the aisle.

Rashida Tlaib is holding up a whiteboard that appears to say "That's a lie"

...some Democrats are holding signs that say "Save Medicaid"

...now a number of House Democrats are standing with their back toward Trump. some are wearing tshirts that say "resist."

A number of them just left the House chamber.

... missed this earlier. Democrats did not join the escort committee to bring Trump into the chamber.

Brian Tyler Cohen @briantylercohen 10h
The Democrats are now walking out of the chamber en masse.

Harry Sisson @harryjsisson 10h
Democrats are currently walking out of Trump’s speech en masse

Cassie Semyon @casssemyon 10h
.@RepKamlagerDove was one of the Democrats who walked out of the President’s address to Congress tonight. She was wearing this shirt as she walked out of the chamber in protest. In a statement, Kamlager-Dove said “there’s only so much bullshit that a person can tolerate.”

David Smith @SmithInAmerica 11h
Jasmine Crockett and several other Democrats walk out of the chamber in protest. Some have "Resist" written on the back of their clothes.

Maxwell Alejandro Frost @MaxwellFrostFL 10h
We just walked out of the state of the Union. My shirt showed Trump an important message: NO KINGS LIVE HERE.

In the spirit of student protestors from the Civil Rights Movement, I’m proud to have protested and walked out with many of my colleagues.

...more.

MTG and Bang Bang Boebert standing up and screaming LIAR repeatedly during Biden's Speech........

I loath the fact that Bang Bang is from Colorado. We may be a bright Blue state, but all of Rural Colorado votes bright red.
Think about how Boebert got the name, Bang Bang. It wasn't from her carrying a gun strapped all the time to her hip.

She literally got thrown out of packed audience at the Denver Center for Performing Arts, during a play one night.
There is amazing quality security video of her and her most recent boy toy, vaping an unknown substance, and giggling like school children, and laughing out loud during the performance......Then it conclusively shows her groping him and him groping her like a couple of teenagers in the back row of the balcony in a small town movie theatre......
Security members, during the performance, escorted her and her boy toy out of the theatre and the video of that shows her giving the finger to the security team on the way out of the theatre.....Check the internet for the video if you don't believe it and think I am embellishing their "Performance".........

But I've got my doubts. The Democrats shouldn't have shown up at all, last night; instead, they delivered a wimpy-assed gift exhibition to trump and his scumbag republican cheerleaders. When or if another trump SOU rolls around, the Democrats better show a lot more principled anger and courage than they did last night---the era of competing for good conduct medals ended some time ago. Rep. Green's actions ought to serve as a template.

They had done nothing.

Seems to me if you get sooooooo upset over the Dems doing this small amount of protesting, are you going to have a heart attack when they increase their efforts against the fascists? If you want more and stronger protests, you are not going to get it if you bash the little amount they do.

They at least did something. Which is better, an improvement. It's a beginning.

If you scream and hollar about liberals protesting you are suppressing liberals protesting. Who cares about stupid right wing memes? Mostly stupid right wingers. There are going to be a lot more memes before the US military parade for Putin begins.

Yeah, this is far too little but it's a start. Do we need a lot more? yeah! But squashing the first attempts to even clap back is not going to get you the huge protests you claim you want. Occupy started as a small sit in and look at what evolved.

And yes, I have marched in protests too. I was there with occupy. I have written my Congress critters too. Me and my fellow protesters in TN were surround by motorcycle gangs trying to stop us. They kept driving around us yelling and holding up Nazi symbols. They didn't stop us though. And I suspect the gang got paid by pedo Trump supporters.

I'm not against what you claim to want. And I will and have joined in such protests....but ridiculing the little that gets done won't get you more of it.

Wed Mar 5, 2025, 07:43 PM
Mar 2025

There are Reps and Senators. Each their own person. Nobody in leadership is telling Democratic politicians, "This is what you must do... or else!". That's not how Democrats work. You know, big tent, herding cats... all that jazz. We're not all going to agree on tactics. For instance, i disagree with yours.

Let's get to your suggestion. How do you suppose standing "in unison" would've worked in that venue? Ever practice dance in a group or synchronized swimming? Well neither have our Reps. So yeah I think that would've been thoroughly ineffective. By the time the cameras veered anywhere near a Democrat they would've already been walking out the door... I'd rather they interrupt his speech a dozen times than just the once. And if you think dragging Democrats out one at a time by the Sgt at Arms is a good idea...wel i don't know what to say then.

I would like to have seen Democrats hold their own SOTU at a different venue entirely. But i can see how logistically that would have been improbable... in part because i'm sure some Dem politicians felt the need to protest at the actual SOTU. In different ways of course.
