Senator Chuck Schumer Needs To Call A Press Conference, Now

He needs to tell the American people what voting for this CR will do to them. He needs to lay it all on the line about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

He needs to tell the American people that if Democrats vote for this CR that they cannot protect SS, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Then he needs to say that he is urging all Democratic Senators to vote No to the CR.

everything they *wanted* to put into the CR, but didn't dare at the moment. During reconciliation, they can slip in all kinds of phrases, delineations, and additions. And there's not a damned thing we can do about it. I don't know about you, but I'm getting really tired and frustrated at this government "by the people, for the people" where the people have absolutely no say in it whatsoever!

I don't like the idea of preventing Congress from questioning trump's damn tariffs, but the CR is not a bad temporary solution if you are worried about SS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

Besides, in 6 months we'll be in full midterm mode.

The CR will permit Trump to continue his rampage of our institutions. Permitting him to continue defunding will give him absolute power to defund anything he wants. We must continue our fight to stop his cruel and random attach's on our citizens & institutions. Congress should not cede it's power to control funding. This is the beginning of authoritative rule

There were times a minority leader that McConnell voted with the Dems because the yes vote gave him some sort of rights and privileges relative to the bill going forward.

Am I remembering this from some fever dream or is it real ???

"I feel pretty certain that today is the last day to have any impact on what Democratic senators will do on the upcoming vote on the House-produced 'continuing resolution.' There was apparently a pretty intense argument yesterday in a caucus meeting about what to do. (I’ll say more about that shortly). But I think Democratic senators have made a collective decision to keep their constituents in the dark about what they plan to do. That is part of a larger culture of opacity that has seemed to me to be an increasingly consequential part of the failure of civic governance in the country as the drama has played out. If you’re able to get any answers from your senator, please let me know."

Yes, I agree with Marshall here. I called my very progressive D representative on the day of the SOTU and the person who answered the phone had "no information" about whether she would attend. This on the day of. Of course, she did attend, and I fear that the D's who won't say how they'll vote now will vote yes. Dems are not communicating clearly with their own voters (even supporters) and we have to ask why.

this article might have some of the negative details in it:
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/house-passes-bill-to-fund-federal-agencies-through-september

on edit:
and when i say "adding" i mean cutting some of the good stuff

double edit: in this bill congress cedes power to trump/the power of the purse.

Republicans Quietly Cede Power to Cancel Trump’s Tariffs, Avoiding a Tough Vote
House G.O.P. leaders tucked the provision into a procedural measure needed to pass a government spending bill.

House Republican leaders on Tuesday quietly moved to shield their members from having to vote on whether to end President Trump’s tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, tucking language into a procedural measure that effectively removed their chamber’s ability to undo the levies.

The maneuver was a tacit acknowledgment of how politically toxic the issue had become for their party, and another example of how the all-Republican Congress is ceding its power to the executive branch.

In this case, Republican leaders did so using a particularly unusual contortion: They essentially declared the rest of the year one long day, nullifying a law that allows the House and Senate to jointly put an end to a disaster declared by the president.
