Shutting down the government isnt the answer.
At some point a CR would need to be passed with Democrats likely gaining nothing but the contempt of voters; shutting down the government would do nothing to stop Trump, it would only make matters worse for the American people.
Attacking Senator Schumer and Senate Democrats is unwarranted and wrongheaded.

Sorry, times have changed, and this used condom of an excuse isn't convincing.

(431 posts)Our representatives, REPRESENT, our party constituency who is very angry about the destruction of our government and way of life. Schumer is a coward and should in no way be a leader in times like these. News flash: the dems got destroyed last election playing the middle and were blamed even though inflation and the economy was getting better. Sick of this shit

(446 posts)The Democrats are in a tricky situation. However, if they fold, they will demonstrate that they lack the capacity to fight when it really matters. Trump and Musk have tanked the economy and destroyed a host of federal programs that serve the public. It is unclear how forcing the Republicans to the negotiating table is going to make matters worse (there was no negotiation the first time). The House Republicans are playing a game of chicken betting Democrats will fold when pushed into a corner. If the Dems message well, they can put it right back in the lap of the Republicans.
