And we seem to have no use for the plaque on its base with the Emma Lazarus poem either, since we clearly don't want the tired or the poor any more - so France can have that, too.

France should take back the Statue of Liberty because the US no longer represents the values that led France to offer the statue, a French Euro-deputy said Sunday.

"Give us back the Statue of Liberty", centre-left politician Raphael Glucksmann said at a convention of his Place Publique centre-left movement.

"We're going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: 'Give us back the Statue of Liberty,'" he told cheering supporters.

"'We gave it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it. So it will be just fine here at home,'" he added.

and the actual headline on the linked article reads:

French deputy asks for return of Statue of Liberty

That's one French Member of the European Parliament, "centre-left politician Raphael Glucksmann", and this post title is blatant clickbait.

American spirit of freedom and individual freedoms that make this Country so great. It's certainly not what this orange moron does in his office, making a filthy mess of everything he touches. What makes this Country so great is us.

Plain and simple, it's us.

I doubt the French want pedastal with the added plaque:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

The French are very protective of whom they allow into their country.

I choose to optimistically assume this period of US history won't last long. Let's fight for the values Lady Liberty represents.

Justice matters.

That is a great idea, if the unduly-fired Scientists can't find new jobs in the US, I hope France will accomodate them, somewhere in France!

Great idea!

Few will care.
Now if it were a statue of Jefferson Davis there would be protests and death threats.
Never again will I say a pledge of allegiance. Never to a dictator!
The national anthem is meaningless and the flag is flying upside down.
My Marine Corps service during the cold war was for nothing. We gave it away.
It's all the citizens (?) who are butt hurt and listen to the shyster.
Go ahead, what do you have to lose?
War Powers Act against America?
Take the Statue. We dishonor it.
