That is, if that's the only plan. Of Course we must win the next election and the next, but here's the problem;
I don't think we have a year to wait. The road to a dictatorship is moving quickly.
Just as I posted 578 times for Garland to act, Time Matters right now to save our democracy.
We had a chance to take a stand and blew it.
A charismatic Democratic leader is not going to swoop in and save us, it is up to us to save ourselves. Democrats need to keep doing town halls that inform, that organize, that provide action plans.
Now is not the time to be doing book tours.
#579 - Time matters.

(225 posts)The power of the state will be employed to investigate, charge, arrest and indict a large number of Dem office holders and candidates. I would expect a multi-front assault on the national party as well as many Trump-unfriendly media outlets.
I predict we will see super-majorities for the Republicans in Congress and at state levels.

(396 posts)If he'll do that, why would he respect his constitutional term limit or elections in general?

(32,035 posts)Schumer has postponed his scheduled book tour appearances scheduled for this week.
Most likely a very good move, glad to see that he agrees with me on something. Pretty sure that his book signings would not have been very pleasant.

(20,461 posts)Republicans have been working tirelessly for almost 70 years to reach this exact point. They're not going to allow something as trifling as democracy to take it all away from them now.

Let's not sell ourselves short.
The Democratic party is the people, not only politicians.
And the people are quite pissed.

(17,325 posts)this since the New Deal. Though it really wasn't highly noticeable until the 70's -- so I'd put it at more like 50 years. A lot of us old timers probably became concerned about exactly that -- the Rs having a long game strategy for turning back the clock so to speak that they were working while Dems -- remaining ever faithful to bipartisanship -- negotiated with them over time incrementally in what seemed like "one step forward two steps back" fashion over most of those 50 years.
Really, it's no wonder many found green or other third party candidates attractive. I've spoken with many Greens who say they gave up on the Democratic Party for exactly this reason or they were just as susceptible to the influence of money as Rs.
I've nevertheless remained a loyal albeit sometimes wistful Dem candidate voter -- because it seemed like the only realistic choice. My patience is wearing thin these days.

(1,640 posts)More Putin wisdom. Even if you lose playing by the rules, you still lost. They succeed by ignoring the rules. They've bent the Court, making the rules quaint, and their army of goons are "standing back and standing by". In this instance, Honor itself is a hostage, and winning will mean matching deplorable with deplorable. We can't beat them without getting down in the gutter with them. This is our only salvation, and we'll have to mortgage our Honor and make them pay to redeem it. We can turn the other cheek later. I blame Religion.

Chris Murphy is right
We only have a few months before extreme violence is the only option left to the public. WTF? We keep acting like there is a rule book.

(993 posts)We need to immediately launch recall petitions in every state for every Republican in Congress. We must take back control of Congress before it is too late.

A petition from every State (signed by their constituents) to both sides of Congress requesting that the Republicans from that State (by name) should either resign or be removed by whichever house it is that they reside in on the grounds that they are not abiding by their oath of office and are not representing their constituents best interests by following along with Trump's dictates.
Just looking for a way that we can have a voice to put them on notice. Your thoughts?
