This is the impression I'm getting from Chuck Schumer, James Carville and Gavin Newsome.
Personally, moving to the right has helped Democrats lose elections not win them.
I also want to mention that anything trans?"woke" related was only brought up on the news/social media/right wing media, not Democratic candidates.
Talk me down.

(10,057 posts)...even though they were the most progressive administration in decades and decades.
So, who do you go after? The people that just won the Republicans complete control of the federal government or the people that chose to sit at home or vote for third parties even though you implemented more of their progressive policies than anyone else has been able to in decades?
I don't agree with dragging our party to the right, but there is a sizable portion of the left that ain't exactly helping our cause either...

(67 posts)Should include freedoms for everyone, no matter race, sexual orientation, etc. I think this messaging can be achieved without coming off as fringe or insane.
But, the Democrats CAN NOT allow the messaging to be co-opted by far-left groups. James Carville said this best..we do not need far-left groups running anything because they've never WON anything, and winning is everything, stupid!
You're right, though. The right-wing media apparatus talks about fringe leftist issues more than anyone. That is their vector of attack, so they should be starved of content.

Look at the crowds Sanders draws. He is a truth - teller. More of that sort of thing. I would also lose the corporate ties as much as possible. This next election should be anti-billionaire as much as possible. Across the board, they should channel that anger.

(3,281 posts)IIRC, Sanders polled better than others in lineups against DJT the first time around.
Reaching across the aisle so much risks putting us squarely on the other side of it.

(5,215 posts)It about appearing and being strong that will win election. If the electorate "feel" and "believe" that we are defending them, they'll defend the dems. Much of politics is about perception. Right now the perception is that dems are weak, and we can't fault them for that perception.

(702 posts)that a lot of people are going to feel the pain of the policies the center-right have wanted for years but never thought about the consequences. Democrats need to be able to tell the truth in the same forceful and accessible way that Turnip lies in order to be heard in this media landscape. But there need to be real adjustments in how Democrats talk about the issues that have alienated moderates in so many areas. That stupid anti-trans commercial the Turnip campaign ran against Harris was unfortunately very effective in my area anyway. Democrats have to--like it or not--recalibrate their messaging to be staunch defenders of individual rights and liberty and not just defenders of trans-athletes. Not pushing back against that commercial in a thoughtful way was a big mistake. There are going to be some huge opportunities to show which party is the defender of the Constitution and individual rights. Tacking in a way that makes people think you are just Republican-light is not a winning strategy IMO.

(15,377 posts)Ignore the democratic base. Appeal to the republican base instead. As the republican party moves right, that 'appeal' also has to move right. This effect is commonly referred to as the overton window.
