were deported are going straight into prison in El Salvador? On what legal basis? Since they haven't committed crimes in Venezuela or the US, and have never set foot in El Salvador before last week. How are they not being treated as refugees or Salvadoran asylum seekers or ordinary immigrants?

Why prison?????

Can someone please explain?

folks arrived in Salvador and the rationale for them going to prison.

To put it in the language of a 5-year old, "What did they do wrong exactly?"

Nothing is making sense to me, and that's a scary place to be.

Abu Ghahaib prison used US people to torture.

Photos got out to US public,,, and then the world’s condemnations.

SO The US govt ‘learned’ not to use US a military or its private thugs like Blackwater
anymore.

Now…send to some third party, let them inflict the harsh treatment.

Trump is following in BushJR/Cheney’s horrific treatment of detainees

No morals obviously. Apparently we are paying them a 'small fee' per prisoner to offset costs.. which sounds like prison for profit.
Which isn't out of the ordinary I suppose, but it's still horrific. Those poor families, and those poor men. 😮‍💨😕🥺

I really doubt they are anything to do with the current situation and the people that trump has deported.

Two of them are definitely during the pandemic. The first image is a stock photo from Getty, the final one was published two or three years ago.

Please don't post sensational, inflammatory material before you check the provenance of the images.

El Salvador: Inhumane Prison Lockdown Treatment
President’s Call for Lethal Force Ignores Basic International Standards

Washington, DC) – El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has ordered a mandatory lockdown in prisons holding gang members, imposing inhumane conditions on the inmates, Human Rights Watch said today. He also announced that he was authorizing “the use of lethal force” by security forces for “self-defense and to protect the lives of Salvadorans” even if it is not a measure of last resort, as required by Salvadoran and international law.

After weeks of very few reported killings in El Salvador, 77 people were murdered between April 24 and 27, 2020. The president claimed he had “intelligence information” that the homicides were orchestrated by gang members inside prisons. The lockdown he subsequently ordered involves holding them in inhumane conditions that may amount to torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. He also tweeted about using lethal force against gang leaders in the streets.

To pull random images from a few years ago and pretend they are pertinent, current events. This is, as best , not an honest representation.

I hate trump, I hate what he is doing, but your subject line in the OP clearly states that these are current images of recently deported people. They are not.

NYTIMES used the same photos to show the place of horror Trump
is using
