Academic institutions and powerful law firms cave, as "We the People" are the ones who continue to fight

for our Constitutional Republic, and freedom of speech, and the rule of law.

The pillars of our democracy need to hold. We can't do it all by ourselves. "We the People" and the a thriving democracy built these institutions. These institutions have the money to shield them and strong foundations on which to stand, and yet some of them are giving in to extortion and siege tactics.

As Columbia and Dartmouth cave to a shakedown, they betray all their benefactors and the generations that have contributed to their academic greatness. It is difficult to accept that a law firm would consider capitulation, rather than standing up for the rule of law.

Here we are - We the People - trying to put together the next protest with nothing to shield us, other than our precious freedom of speech. Meanwhile academic institutions and law firms are willing to hand over that precious freedom of speech. Every time they do so they devalue its force for the rest of us. Shame!

We don't have the money and protections around us and yet we are willing to stand up for our Democracy and fight on. By capitulating these institutions make our job harder. How dare they?!

When they bow to the extortion and mob boss tactics of the grifter and the mRAT, they don't just hurt themselves. They normalize the mafia state, and they put targets on the backs of other individuals and institutions.

Someone should have told them - every time you acquiesce to a sociopath, you empower them even more...and more...and more.

Doing whatever the orange mob boss tells them to do.
Gives him whatever he wants.

While we the people have very little in terms of money and power.

Yet we are speaking out.

I just told a friend: giving a bully, a ruthless psychopath, every single thing he wants
only emboldens him, he will get much much worse.

(As usual YD, I have had the same thoughts today.)

And we both know that those that capitulate will not be safe either, as they make the rest of us less safe.

Trump will be back for more.

When a blackmailer finds a willing victim they keep going back for more cash or favors.

Yes and the rich and powerful who keep paying the blackmail make the world much
more dangerous for everyone.

6. Paul Weiss Grovels To Trump, Gets Out From Under Executive Order

I am disappointed in Paul Weiss

Well ain’t this some shit. Faced with an Executive Order — described by the right as designed to bankrupt the firm — Paul Weiss chairman Brad Karp kissed the ring of Donald Trump.

As noted by Anna Bower of Lawfare, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Karp “acknowledged the wrongdoing” of former partner Mark Pomeratz as part of his offering. For the record, the “wrongdoing” was joining Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in the successful prosecution of Donald Trump.

Karp also agreed to eliminate all DEI programs at the firm within 14 days, provide $40 million in pro bono services to Trump initiatives, and to abandon partisan decision making in its representations (whatever that means).

This is all taken from Trump’s post so the usual grains of salt might apply, but this is one of Trump’s “not-ALL-CAPS” posts, which usually mean they’ve been vetted and written by someone else.

As a result of this servile positioning, Trump rescinded the executive order targeting the firm.

This bodes absolutely terribly for the industry. It’s an admission from one of the biggest and most powerful law firms in the nation that fighting a likely unconstitutional Executive Order in court just isn’t worth it. The harm that the Trump administration can bring is too great, and the court system is unable to counter the blatant lawlessness the far right is engaged in.
