General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe all know what's going on; I'm just waiting on somebody to do something.
I watch a lot of MSNBC and all day long they innumerate all the crazy shit that Trump and Musk have done and continue to do. But I only watch, hoping for some "breaking news" that Trump has had a stroke or worse.
Some are still blaming the Democrats for the situation for whatever reasons, though there are none. The crazy people in this country elected Trump as well as, majorities in the Congress. The Dems can't do a damn thing without any congressional power. Though I will admit, they should have let the country shut down. I know what Schumer said but it was still a win for Trump and a missed opportunity to stand strong against him. Either way, Trump is still steamrolling over the government.
I'm just fuc*ing infuriated with everybody talking and nobody doing anything...except some Judges, God bless 'em.

(23,608 posts)Other than the outstanding leaders speaking truth to power, lately led by AOC, Bernie Sanders and Tim Walz, leaders have to be led.
John Lewis and Dr. Martin Luther King are gone.

Will you take their place in a demonstration or show up at the Sanders-OC road show?
When 30,000 people show up, it sends a message.

As correctly noted: there exists no mechanism of governance affording Democrats and other opponents of Trump the power or authority to countervail Trumps lawless acts save that of the courts.
The blame rests solely with Congressional Republicans its their responsibility to remove Trump from office via the impeachment process; but Congressional Republicans are blind partisan members of the Trump Cult, those who arent in the Cult are cowards.

Politicians aren't going to get us out of 40 years of right-wing brainwashing. Talking to your friends, family, and neighbours and actively trying to deprogramme them is the only thing that stands a chance of doing it.

(2,955 posts)I would suggest that works only when the political leadership supports the peoples' position, e.g. The Civil Rights Act of 1964. The President was a Democrat and both chambers of the Congress had massive Democratic majorities. Which is not to say I disagree with the value of the ongoing protests against the Trump agenda but his average approval rating is still near 50%. The crazy people who elected him, still support him.

And when you add the intimidation factor by Trump in cowering the GOP lawmakers' actions, the power of the people is toothless.
I think Trump actually believes he can personally run the government and will eliminate federal workers and agencies to the point the government can't effectively function; after which time he'll make daily decisions on what the government does and just tell the Cabinet members to "make it so."
As a point of fact, he's already doing that...

(2,955 posts)..if Trump's poll numbers drop and if we make it to the 2026 midterms and if Trump hasn't corrupted the election process.
