Charles lll may have done something very cunning

In inviting trump, and by extension the USA to become an associate nation country of the Commonwealth of Nations.

If he accepts, being the filthly little snob that he is, the USA will be bound by the membership criteria applied to all other member countries and there are rules: compliance with Commonwealth values, principles and priorities as set out in the Harare Commonwealth Declaration of 1991; and that it should accept Commonwealth norms and conventions.

https://www.commonwealthofnations.org/commonwealth/commonwealth-membership/membership-criteria/

Another interesting read is the Commonwealth Charter https://thecommonwealth.org/charter which states:

Affirming that the special strength of the Commonwealth lies in the combination of our diversity and our shared inheritance in language, culture and the rule of law; and bound together by shared history and tradition; by respect for all states and peoples; by shared values and principles and by concern for the vulnerable,

Being an associate commonwealth nation absolutely precludes agression against another c'wealth country - ie Canada who should be safe for now. How is he going to spin his threats of war and retain his coveted Commonwealth associate membership?

Save for Project 2025.

My guess is that he would attempt a hostile takeover of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Will join the club and ignore the rules. The King is very naive if he believes otherwise.

Trump will destroy the commonwealth in a heartbeat.

UK is playing with fire.

Charles cannot extend this invitation without the approval of the UK government.

Nobody asked us lowly British subjects about this, and I doubt any of our MPs have been consulted.

Charles is only head of state in a ceremonial sense.
He is not involved in day to day politics.
He has soft power but cannot invite other countries into the commonwealth.

If he has breached rock solid protocol he is way out of line.
And the PM may have a word with him.

It was the brainchild of an NGO, the Royal Commonwealth Society, not elected members, and it was delivered by Nigel Farage, not even an MP at that time.

When the Royal Commonwealth Society wrote to Trump in 2017, the letter was delivered by Nigel Farage, who was the first British politician to meet Trump after his 2016 election victory.

The society's then director, Michael Lake, said opening a Commonwealth branch in the US would help the two nations "find imaginative ways" to work together.

(Note GB News is a right-wing UK network, and very jingoistic when it suits it.)

It's been described as a "secret offer", so it's hard to see how it could be subject to any democratic input. (The Sun is also generally a right-wing organ.)

Charles is Head of the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of countries, and not directly accountable to parliament. All that's being reported so far is kite-flying from the Royal Commonwealth Society via a report of rumours of a secret plan from a Daily Mail columnist, Richard Eden, so it evidently hasn't been subject to parliamentary oversight.

Brilliant! Why didn’t we think of that before? I mean, if there’s anything he’s famous for, it’s definitely his unwavering commitment to following rules.
