Kurt Vonnegut wrote a poem about Joe Heller, and it reminded me of a few people in the news a lot.

JOE HELLER
True story, Word of Honor:
Joseph Heller, an important and funny writer
now dead,
and I were at a party given by a billionaire
on Shelter Island.
I said, “Joe, how does it make you feel
to know that our host only yesterday
may have made more money
than your novel ‘Catch-22’
has earned in its entire history?”
And Joe said, “I’ve got something he can never have.”
And I said, “What on earth could that be, Joe?”
And Joe said, “The knowledge that I’ve got enough.”
Not bad! Rest in peace!”

Great minds have similar recollections.

Didn't see yours when I started my post, which has delayed by breakfast.

... is reported to have once said, "All I want is my share, and that's all of it!"

And Daniel Day Lewis' character in "There Will Be Blood" said, "It's not enough that I have money, I cannot abide others having any." Or words to that effect. Pretty well sums up the diseased belief system of the people behind Project 2025.

... and I know he's ruined people over perceived slights, or just because he considers ripping vendors off to be "good business". But, being the craven coward he is, he always punches down. I cannot recall an instance when he tangled with someone with more money and power. He's a blowhard who cannot always back up his threats. But now that he can use the U.S. Treasury as his personal piggy bank, that changes the dynamic.

He is having the time of his life. Every single target on the planet is less powerful than he is.

Edward G Robinson and his gang sieze Lionel Barrymore's small hotel, holding him, Lauren Bacall, and Humphrey Bogart at gunpoint while awaiting a rendesvous with other gangsters with a hurricane approaching.

In the scene I remember, Bacall asks Edward G what he wants. Bogie pipes up and says "I'll tell you what he wants -- he wants MORE."

Edward G responds "Yeah, that's right -- I want MORE!!!

... I will never forget the very first line of that fantastic novel: "It was love at first sight." Yossarian was an unforgettable character. So was Kurt's Billy Pilgrim.
I loved both of those novelists.
