( As related to me by a Canadian friend )
The Trudeau led Liberal party had about a 1% chance of forming a majority government in the upcoming election. Trudeau resigns, the L party (LPC) chooses Mark Carney (look him up, very talented person) and now they have a 64% chance of a majority against Pierre Poilievre, the far right leader of the Conservative Party whos rightly linked to trump
Ideally , Trudeau should not have been so unpopular IMO, but the conservatives spent a lot of time and money on divisive misinformation (sound familiar?)
Trudeau had been in power for 3 terms and 9 years, his time was over. He was fine in my eyes. But 3 months ago it was pretty much a lock that the conservatives would get an easy majority
Current projections:

As for the Conservatives Brainwashing the voters against Mark Carney:
Itll be a tough sell. In 2008 to about 2010, Carney ran the bank of Canada and steered us completely away from the financial crisis, and it was a conservative government in power and they adored his work
I mean he went to Harvard on a hockey scholarship, ya dont get more Canadian than that

I love his plan to make canada the strongest economy in the G7 and he's the guy who could do it
He feels that by removing intra provincial trade barriers we can basically nullify the impact of US tariffs and a big expansion of trade to ANY other country

(29,489 posts)One thing about Trump is that like a typical bully, he wilts in the face of true resistance.
I listen to CBC radio a lot and try to keep up with their politics and I was worried about Polievre, so the timing of this is spot on.

(2,777 posts)I am a bit confused Pluvious, it appears to me the blue line on your link graph refers to the Conservative party while the red line refers to the LPC party which you say is the liberal party.
Is this so or am I reading it wrong?
Yegads if so, this is of course diametrically opposite to our political color code.
Spent two months in Quebec in 2017 summer, trois riviere mostly, trump elected inspired.
Did not go to Canada to escape Vietnam era service but an undereducated corrupt obnoxious political punk did the trick.
Long live Mark Carney.

(2,777 posts)I did not claim your conservatives were in step with our American governmental right wing cretinism. Only meant the color code diametrically opposite. I have been well aware of your stated position for decades, more so with regards to Britain anyway.
I view Canada's conservatives as being about a center right American politician. The same with British Tories. What you say?
I may be wrong but I cannot see one single British Tory MP wanting to allow assault rifles legal in Britain, do you? What about Canadian MPs? Some might want to allow handguns legal but less to carry concealed, eh?
How about climate change deniers? Any MPs in Britain or Canada? Abortion rights (this one I am unsure so much).

(4,027 posts)I wouldn't be surprised. He has the template for spewing misinformation and influencing hosers. The template can work in any number of places. I assume it's low cost, high reward.
I truly hope the Liberals pull this out, but I'm cautious. It looked good for Vice President Harris at first too.

(15 posts)The causes are myriad, with Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre losing two of his biggest targets Justin Trudeau and the carbon tax and U.S. President Donald Trump generating a wave of Canadian pride and nationalism with tariff and annexation threats. Over this three-month period Liberal support has jumped 30 points in the city of Toronto, 25 points!

(55,910 posts)And the materials I've seen don't generally say that. They say he went to Harvard on a partial scholarship and financial aid and played hockey. They may phrase it in a way that implies the scholarship was for hockey, but the ivies don't do that. No athletics scholarships at any of the ivies.
Most likely, the scholarship was a needs-based grant. Those are very common at the ivies it's so expensive and they have huge endowments.
Now, it's possible that an outside booster provided a scholarship, but the ivies discourage that, they might even ban it. Most likely, though, it was needs-based.

They don't offer athletic scholarships, but find other ways to offer financial support.

(12,382 posts)The man is smart and highly engaging. He's managed to position himself as an outsider. Though he's worked consistently around government in banking and finance with appointments (Governor to the Bank of Canada and Governor to the Bank of England) he had not been directly involved in electoral politics until recently. Well respected and personally popular, Carney is an excellent foil to the likes of Pierre Poilievre and his Maple Leaf Magats.
Right man in the right place at the right time. He's also been benefited by Canadian disgust with all things Trump. Rightly so.
Godspeed!

(2,777 posts)Thought of a good fight song for Canadians at their sporting events:
Sung to tune of Rule Brittania
Rule Canadians, Canadians rule the Bays.
Cana da, never never never, shall be a state.
Cana da spelled thus to separate Cana in first high note, from da in second descending note in the tune.
Rule Brittania, Brittania rules the waves.
Britons never never never, shall be slaves.
