a quote that I keep pasted on the side of my computer: It describes my feelings for all of you - well, most all of you anyway! lol
"But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearless on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort --- the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person ---having neither to weigh thoughts nr measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as ther are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.
1866 - Dinah Maria Mulock Craik in a book titled, "A Life for a Life"

(5,797 posts)Because in today's one-minute relationship extravaganza, with the multitudes encountered every day, blow the breath of kindness to get rid of the majority with whom you do not care to develop a moments relationship again.
This is a skill that needs training, refining, and keeping. Thank you, old soldierfadingfast!

(24,486 posts)I'm more depressed and with less hope. No quote will fix that.
oldsoldierfadingfast
(220 posts)that you are depressed. And yes, you are right, a 'quote' will not fix it; nor will telling you to "just snap out of it".
You may need help beyond anything we here on DU can do.
Are you seeking professional help?
For what it is worth; as one who studied Psych for a BS, I think you may need some counseling.

(5,797 posts)and it's from a place I deal with often. I could throw out some philosophy or short meaningless colloquialisms which is nothing but ramblings and justifications for a situation that is so terrible it is hard to explain/express. something along the lines of cheer up, get a grip, move on, or so on.
But when I have tried to find a different mindset it is fragile.
I do like to find humor but while you are in "that place" it seems thin, and pointless, and I just go back to just trying to stay neutral and get myself nourishments and pedal around with what I have brought my life to.
Mainly though, I try to negotiate life onward with as little or as small of an impact possible.
Maybe what it is for me is depression as well, but I just go on with whatever it can be described or analyzed as, and go about my business and live day by day.
And to tell you the absolute truth this doomsday depressing feeling is politically related. The clowns in the white house have everything to do with it.

(1,862 posts)I read your comment and had to chuckle. It was good to hear someone say something that I was thinking.
That said, I do love DU. Without it I would be clueless about what was happening in the world like many people around me. Ignorance is bliss?

(1,492 posts)Community is a part of Resistance. So is keeping our fighting spirits up. DU helps with both. It is easy to slip into despair, but we can not afford to. We have to keep fighting. Thanks for the good post.
