Join us Saturday April 5th.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. Were taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!

(323 posts)Our numbers are all we have right now to make a point. Hopefully it wont come to political violence, butI if it does, I know many liberals who would never would have armed themselves before this administration who are arming themselves now. Some of my gay and x friends are also talking about joining socialist militias. Me personally? Im so disabled that I will be protesting from my scooter. I also think weaponized drones are a better answer.

(63 posts)I know the mistakes of the past and what it'll take to do something new.
That something new is the crimson line that nobody, with their brains fried, will risk it for obvious reasons.

(2,713 posts)You've definitely made your point: "protests are useless", but in terms of a practical alternative, you've offered nothing of substance. Other than perhaps an insinuation that people need to be willing to die when they attend protests, and then maybe they'll 'work', based on your knowing 'the mistakes of the past'? Is this what you calling 'something new'?
People are wasting time for the nth time with something that doesn't work (arguably, never worked ever).
As for...
I did, previously; yet I know nobody encouraged to participate in these marches, protests, gathering etc., aren't there to do differently than in previous times, generations, other than provide materials for social media, mass-media news cycles, and for the police to show who're really the bosses when violence, beatings, killings, are at play.
Crowds aren't there to die or "unalive" the monopoly of violence operatives (police, paramilitary, military, federal officers etc.), and the latter are just there to re-re-re-re...-re-reiterate that they're still in power and ready to "unalive" people, the same crowds doing nothing while marching/protesting/gathering/etc.
That's the supreme point: nothing is done, nothing is being achieved (as always...), everything is room temperature lukewarm as always but hey, at least one gets to do screenshots to upload on social media and, maybe, see their faces on some news media cycles reruns on the internet the next day or so.
Nobody is serious, I've argued why.

(2,713 posts)What I'm asking is what alternative action(s) would convey the appropriate level of 'seriousness' in your estimation, and when you describe what these are, please describe the mechanism(s) by which they will more effectively promote the change we'd like to see? Or is it that you think protesting is a waste of time, but so is anything else one might actually or practically endeavor to do, so we're basically just fucked with no available recourse?

(63 posts)Are you going with a weapon?
Are you going to shoot at federal enforcers, national guards, SWATs etc?
Are you going to burn down property in gated communities of wealthy or senior executives?
Are the people being encouraged to participate going there with the intent of losing their lives or "unaliving" those with riot gear?
No, really what do you expect to work that hasn't worked since Wall Street 2009-2010?
Re-living your parents' or grandparents' '60s or '70s vibe student protests?
I've lived through the same proverbial life movie every time. I know what doesn't work.
The next step is a crimson line that not a lot of people willing to trespass for, again, obvious reasons.
If you're going there to gather college credit, at least be honest about it, otherwise... same old same old that never worked (I know).

(14,218 posts)a National protest out in the streets, politicians who hold office start to pay attention. They understand that these are actual voters and that others watching are encouraged to see that they are not alone in their anger and frustration. The whole point is to let the citizens of this nation know that they are not helpless or without a voice. People who dont want to be in the streets can take other active rolls such as registering to vote, or voting for the first time.
Dont you believe that the best way to lose this precious thing called democracy is by ignoring those who want to rob us of it?

(69,139 posts)on target, and yes, our voices being heard helps. Don't you see GQP Representatives hiding away from their constituents in town halls. Yes, it does help, it shows their constituents' how spineless they are.
They do follow our lead when we get out there, just freaking do something, "good trouble" like Representative John Lewis said.
Thank you tavernier

(15,650 posts)No one is saying protests are impotent but you
for some reason.
Social Security is being dismantled. People are going to die if it collapses, and so are willing to die trying to save it. No violence on our part is necessary, but if violence is inflicted on us, so be it.
Pushback works, and it will continue, like it or not. You're not going to succeed in discouraging us from our only peaceful option.
Think. Again.
