to the WH to do some bootlicking!
I never really liked him. But he's really reprehensible these days.
What a clown!

(65,905 posts)If it's about money, I could see how he's afraid of that. If so, it's pretty damning.
Sometimes I wonder why we should even care about people like Maher and Joe and Mika. Just sit back and laugh at them and keep on fighting the good fight as citizens. There is only so much energy we can spend on stuff. Let's keep it in reserve for the big fights.
Just remember: we can always turn them off and let them know WHY!

(2,354 posts)to explain they are, of course, unavailable for comment. Per Maher...
“Republicans dance like Trump now. They may name weapons systems after him. They’ve even dressed like him with the trademark suit and tie, available exclusively at Banana Republic,” he noted. “All these super macho guys eating the ass of another man.”
Maher also acknowledged Trump’s speech from earlier this month in the episode, pointing out that the president incorrectly stated that the country spent $8 million on making mice transgender.
“Here’s the important thing about this: the fact that President Trump got this wrong isn’t what bothers me… What’s worrisome about it is that nobody around the president would dare tell him that transgenic is not transgender,” he explained. “It makes you think that if Trump came down one day and his fly was open, Republicans wouldn’t tell him. They’d just start showing up with their flies open.”

(12,324 posts)I have watched him since the 90's. He is just angry at a lot of things, and covid messed him up, socially.
I think people wanted to make him be something he wasn't. He is liberal on most issues and conservative on a few.

(29,965 posts)Maher has been savaging liberals for years and years, now. One short session of trump-trashing doesn't undo all the shit he's been slinging at Democrats for such a long time; it's just a reflection of how grim the fascist overthrow of the U.S. government has become: It's so bad that not even a rightwing pimp like Maher can ignore or excuse it anymore.

(29,965 posts)Since there's nothing whatsoever "odd" about Maher respecting trump, while dumping on Biden.
And I hope our resident Maher defenders are happy with his shitting all over the life and legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in that article you were kind enough to post.

(8,853 posts)He does not support transgender people, he was dismissive of the BLM movement. I wouldn't call him "right wing," but he is certainly on our side on a LOT of issues, including some basic economic issues. He's more of a left-leaning libertarian.

misanthrope
(8,618 posts)When you have a comedy show, there should be laughs. However, his ever-expanding grumpiness just sounds curmudgeonly, when he isn't equivocating and pandering to try and retain a larger base of viewers.
My wife insisted on turning on his show the other night. At one point he began complaining about the failing American educational system and blamed it on old-fashioned learning being sacrificed to "woke indoctrination." Neither he nor his guests even brought up the fact that educational curriculum at the high school level and below are mostly the product of individual states, their standards and funding. If he thinks average kids in Alabama and Mississippi are being "indoctrinated" into "being woke," he is sadly mistaken.

(52,744 posts)the other night I watched part of it and realized Maher is a greedy, self centered jackass. It doesn't take long to realize he is a loser since every other sentence out of his mouth proves it. I can tell within 1 minute of listening to him and turn him off.

(8,618 posts)He asked guest John McWhorter if he was agitated by the capitalization of Black as an ethnicity. Just asking the question showed it was stuck in Maher's craw and I immediately said aloud, "Why not? You capitalize Italian and Irish."
Who has an issue with Black being capitalized unless you are also deeply struggling with racial issues beyond that?
BigmanPigman
(52,744 posts)He has been bashing various people for years and it isn't funny, it's just plain mean.
Apparently he has issues with anything "woke" and he will just NOT let it go. He has become more conservative but he doesn't have to be a jerk about it.

(15,116 posts)The AP decided to emphasize the ethnic quality of "black" by capitalizing it. Anyway, I just wanted to answer your question.
misanthrope
(8,618 posts)I meant as in the shorthand for Italian American or Irish American. Those are American ethnicities, too. As is Native American.
Black Americans could very well use more specific descriptives like Yoruba American or Ashanti American had their connections to their lineage not been shattered by the American slave trade.

(27,693 posts)I wonder if Trump even remembers that he sued Maher after he said he'd give Trump $5 million if he could prove one of his parents wasn't an orangutan and Trump actually showed his birth certificate in court.
I don't understand the syndrome. Maher always votes for Democrats, says the same things Obama, Carville and others have said, but some people really need to imagine he's right-wing or a Trumper and do that purity thing where you can't just be wrong about something, you're wrong on purpose, have immoral and evil motivations. And you don't have to listen to what the person says, you just KNOW because feelings.
Apparently influential political figures telling followers that the Democratic Party is a corrupt elite establishment completely controlled by billionaires and oligarchs ignoring the working class and same as Republicans is perfectly fine, a benign little hobby, what could possibly go wrong if the Democratic vote is depressed? Whereas Maher whining about political correctness and the regulations to get his roof fixed and having a variety of guests on his show ("platforming" not meaning what they think it means) makes him Satan.

(1,650 posts)How do you speak truth to power if you refuse to speak to power?
Did Kamala and Biden "normalize" fascism when the agreed to debates with Trump?
Anyone who criticizes Trump loses legitimacy if they won't take a chance to tell him in person.
58Sunliner
(5,538 posts)Pretending that you will effect any change with a committed fascist is delusional. And in Maher's case, narcissistic. All you do is give DT a platform to lie some more. Pretending it's otherwise is gaslighting. You have a nice day.

Kid Rock was on Maher's podcast. He wanted Maher to go meet MFer in the spirit of compromise, I guess. He asked MFer to meet Maher.
MFer is already badmouthing Maher in advance. After the dinner, he'll either lie about Maher bending the knee, or continue to badmouth Maher.
Maher doesn't like Trump at all. If you ever watch his show, you know that.

(13,364 posts)I see Maher being called an asshole and would occasionally agree. Our problem is we overuse these words sometimes, rendering them meaningless and calling into question whether we've done our mirror work.
