Before revealing who that quote comes from, I'd like to know whether it strikes you as an accurate or inaccurate assessment.
Okay, now I'll let you know (if you didn't know already) that Bill Maher said it on his show on Friday night while interviewing Gavin Newsom.
I realize Maher is a polarizing figure and a lot of DUers resent him, but he make valid points at times, whether you love or hate him.

(39,390 posts)Has he ever suggested they work with us? Has anyone? Not as far as I know. It's always on the dems to reach across the aisle. You don't work with fascists & that's that. As long as they work to roll back LGBTQ & reproductive rights & deny science they can fuck off.

(17,072 posts)But people actually have to tell the truth about what they did. I would hope that a few of Musk's code monkeys would tell the truth on pain of a long-term prison sentence.
But the people perpetrating this need to go to prison and we need to take steps that it doesn't happen again. Say, removing some presidential power. Maybe some agencies need to be separated from the Executive Branch (like Justice and Treasury).
But no "healing" without accountability.

(25,095 posts)numerous crimes against their fellow Americans, invasion of privacy, domestic widespread spying on the American people w/o cause, interfering w/ Americans' health care by dismantling health care for millions w/o cause or reason, such as yanking away Medicaid, rescinding previously granted grants and/or scholarships, gutting the future of tens of thousands of people all on a whim to stop fraud, w/ no real evidence.
And this time around, no more beating around the bush, throw them first in jail, and then let them work on their release from jail/home arrest, and not get away w/ anything like tRUMP did. Every one of these people should be up for insurrection, as a minimum. After all, they're the ones breaking the law, they're the ones falsely arresting people, and/or charging people w/ fake charges/trumped up charges. They're the ones stating that if any of us protest, we're subject to being arrested. Remember the one guy they grabbed, they claimed that he was already deported but in reality, he wasn't, they still had him and ignored the ruling of the Court.

(18,109 posts)fucking Republicans "talk and heal" or "work across the aisle". NEVER.
They go scorched earth on everyone and we're supposed to roll over and be "nice" to them because....well, apparently, we're supposed to like getting shanked over and over and over.

(59 posts)When the word healing is used in the context what a Democratic president must do after an election, it means only one thing. Democrats must enact the policies of the party they just defeated at the polls.
Done with that.

(4,201 posts)just perpetuates the problem of pissing off the other half the electorate.
That impulse to grab the wheel and veer recklessly off is what is causing Trump to lose support.
Rather than a mandate, it reveals an unspoken fear that you don't have much time to get radical changes done.
Something as big and important as the federal government needs to be steered with incremental course corrections.
Leaving the least offensive changes in place which were enacted by your opponent is a bitter pill to swallow.
