Johnson has somehow declared the rest of the year as ‘one long day’ to avoid the requirement to bring the bill to the floor after a certain number of days. I think I heard that right, but it’s so insane that I might have misunderstood.

This whole thing is just insane.

Have no idea how quickly it could come to the floor. However, If/When it does come to the floor, I think they will need 4 Republican votes to pass. Can they get that? I have no idea, but I'd think they at least have a chance.

But on another thread, I believe I just saw that you said that even if it passed the Senate and the House, Trump could still veto it - which he would. It would still make a nice statement, but it doesn’t get the job done. Please let me know if I’m missing something. I can’t believe that our economy hinges on the whims of one ignorant madman.

But they don't have the power to stop Trump from doing anything or bypass him. Passing bipartisan legislation like this which directly repudiates top Trump policies is a really strong statement and the kind of thing I thought people were clamoring for Democrats to do. There's nothing they can do more powerful than this.

This is the "next six months = 1 day provision" in the continuing resolution, in which Congress abdicated its ability to terminate the emergency resolution which is the source of Trump's tariff authority.

This resolution was introduced before the continuing resolution and required a vote in both houses within 18 days. The count down stopped when the CR passed, because of the time altering provision. So there was no obligation for the senate to vote on it - but they chose to.

Unfortunately, there is also no obligation for the House to vote on it until 6 or so months from now since the countdown clock has stopped ticking. We'll see what they do.
