I was going to post a piece from the WIRE. They recommend that you may want to have a travel phone to go through customs with so they won't see anything. You also have privacy folder in android phones and Apple phones. You might also take an extra battery and put in a dead battery before you go through customs, or turn your phone off. It avoids them asking to go through your phone. Apparently if you don't agree to have your phone searched, they can make it an issue.
