(1,096 posts)I dont know where he stacks up there, but I'm sure 1927, 1987, 2000 & 2008 would likely be the highest percentage losses

(7,403 posts)for the magas to understand. Dollars they understand; percentages don't mean a thing. That's why our messaging always sucks. We insist on absolute truth and the only way that can usually be delivered is by language that's too hard for the average maga to understand. YMMO
Callie1979
(1,096 posts)The voters you need to reach aren't MAGAs. The MAGAs are pretty much a lost cause & will ignore ANYTHING negative about trump because they're a CULT.
But they also didnt win this election. The voters that won looked at the disaster at the border & changed their mind from 2020. THOSE are the people we need to focus on with the right messaging. And you dont even need to change that many minds; he won by a couple 100k votes over a few states I. believe.
But After this past election I'm afraid we're still not "getting it" as far as messaging goes. We've got 18. months to get it straight

I'm talking about fools that get "informed" about politics through stupid memes and think the Apprentice was real.

(8,766 posts)saying the top 9 is a stronger statement than 9 of the top 10 when #10 is the only one which happened under a Democrat.

They always end up crashing our economy. This is a record for the orange Hitler only in 73 days!

(60,320 posts)1) Incompetency.
2) Impracticality, favouring ideology over practicality.
3) Emotional, to the point of it interfering with decision making. We see it in the shit about DEI and trans, the racism, the insatiable need to own the libs, the fear of furriners, and the difficulty they have dealing with the non-American world because it is non-American.
4) Rejection of science, including economics, and law when reality gets in their way.
5) An attachment to simple analysis and simple solutions over truer but more complex analysis and solutions.
6) Authoritarian tendencies. Leads to cabinets of yes-men.
6b) Nepotism and buddyism which exacerbate problem 1.

(60,320 posts)Give it up. The S&P 500 is capitalization weighted and much more accurately measures the market action.
Get with 2025.

8 of the 10 have been under Republicans (Hoover 3, Trump 2, W.Bush 2 & Reagan 1). 2 were under FDR during the 30's
Today's drop was the 2nd largest single day drop ever, but percentage wise it was only -4.84% which places it well below the top 20 percentage drops.

(60,320 posts)Point changes are useless for these kinds of purposes. A 1000 point change on a 40,000 point base is less meaningful than a 500 point change on a 15,000 point base.
Use percentages. Really.
If I say the price of a painting has risen by $1,000 dollars it makes a difference if the original price was 2,000. If the original price was $800,000 then 1,000 is hardly noticeable, and not meaningful, just noise.
Cut to the chase, use percentages.
