Our faculty association just had a zoom call with our lawyer re: Trump Orders on Higher Ed

Highlights:

For the moment, we are keeping our powder dry because:

AAUP is taking legal action as is several other major organizations like: ACLU, FIRE, and Academic Freedom Alliance.

We will wait (at least for the time being) to see what happens with our Governing Board. We know they are currently discussing their response to the executive orders, so we want to see what their response is before going public with ours.

Our Chancellor has made it clear that he is all in on "following orders" and those of us who don't obey will be fired.
Our lawyer has expressed some optimism that he might be persuaded to change his mind.

However, in the mean time, he advised us that if we are ordered to take action that violates our conscience, to contact him (the lawyer) before taking outright defiant action / disobedience.

In the meantime, if this is an issue that matters to you, please consider joining one of the organizations listed above.

Thank you,
