Of the 5,614 DU'ers who've viewed that OP as of this writing, 121 agreed with putting MAGAs in re-education camps. That's about 2% of the people who viewed the post.

I suspect that many of the 5,493 DU'ers who viewed the OP but did not reply may have dismissed it as an example of deliberate shit-stirring. Of the 121 who advocated re-education camps, many made it clear in their comments that they were angry and venting.

I have to hope those who were just venting would not really put their neighbors in concentration camps if they had the power to. I would not care to participate any longer in DU if I believed that a majority of my fellow DU'ers were really in favor of such an atrocity.

And if I recall correctly, one doesn't have to be a member to view a thread and that view would count

And one would also have to consider that some of those views are from individuals who viewed the thread multiple times.

Also, would you consider any thread that has far more views than replies to be examples of shit stirring?

The answer to that question would be determined by the content of the OP, and by the intentions of the poster.

Your comment:

"Of the 5,614 DU'ers who've viewed that OP as of this writing, 121 agreed with putting MAGAs in re-education camps. That's about 2% of the people who viewed the post.

I suspect that many of the 5,493 DU'ers who viewed the OP but did not reply may have dismissed it as an example of deliberate shit-stirring"

Basically then, any poll here with a lot of views but only a small percentage of votes in relation to the number of views would be considered to be shit-stirring.

As we know, very few people, including yourself, have stated they believe that the poll was an attempt at shit-stirring.

My statement did not argue that a high ratio of views to replies is a telltale sign of a shit-stirring OP. Nothing of the sort.

That first paragraph just argued that it was incorrect to claim that 64% of DU'ers (rather than 64% of the post's respondents) want re-education camps for MAGAs:

Of the 5,614 DU'ers who've viewed that OP as of this writing, 121 agreed with putting MAGAs in re-education camps. That's about 2% of the people who viewed the post.

The second paragraph expressed, with all the tact I could muster under the circumstances, my suspicion that many other viewers may have shared my feeling that the OP was a classic shit-stirrer:

I suspect that many of the 5,493 DU'ers who viewed the OP but did not reply may have dismissed it as an example of deliberate shit-stirring.

Had there been relatively few non-responding viewers, I would still have suspected that a lot of them shared my feelings. And in case I've been too coy, let me here be plain: I feel that OP was a classic shit-stirrer. That's why I've refrained from boosting it by replying to it directly or linking to it from this thread.

One point you've made earlier, which I must concede, is that we can not assume that all viewers are regular DU'ers. Some may be casually-interested liberals, and others surely must be right-wing lurkers.

MAGA lurkers who view such a sensationalist post will likely want to call it to the attention of their fellow MAGAs, to bolster their belief that "The Democrats want to take away our freedoms and throw us into concentration camps if they get voted back into power!". Indeed, that might partially account for the very high number of views the OP has scored - higher than all but two or three of the current OP's in GD.

In which case I can only say: congratulations, mate, well done.

The fact that the poll hasn't been hidden shows it meets the standards of this forum

It was "Would you support a denazification type program if we return to power?' I'd guess that most people didn't read the body of the OP where the word 'camps' was buried towards the end amongst a bunch of other things. Personally I thought it was a silly question. My bet is most DUers wouldn't know much about what denazification involved, or that anything done that long ago would be needed to be treated with caution as we live in a completely different time and some of what passed muster then would be viewed as human rights abuses today.

Back to the question in *this* poll. I strongly suspect the hardcore MAGAs would love to see those they disagree with politically hurt or imprisoned for their views. They seem to thrive on grievance and cruelty towards anyone they 'other'

When you finally get a utopia of like-minded people, they will soon split into two main groups of true believers. The main examples would be politics and religion.

In this case, super conservative vs conservative (liberal).

Cries of heresy and turncoats will ring out from both sides.

Republican efforts to disenfranchise Democratic voters, such as the right’s opposition to early and extended voting.

The closing of voting venues in communities of color.

Measures that disenfranchise native American voters.

Various voter ID laws.

And the ‘SAVE’ act, intended to disenfranchise women perceived as likely Democratic voters.
