I live in a small town among miles and miles of pastureland, hay fields, and orchards, but all that is between two metropolitan areas. A two-lane highway is the main drag through our town. A lot of trucks use our two-lane highway as a shortcut (40 miles of small country road versus 100+ miles on freeways but going through one of the metro areas. It often seems that one third of our traffic is trucks taking that shortcut.
We had a demonstration today that we started in one location and then moved to a main intersection on that main drag through town. I couldn't stay and left while everyone was leaving the first location to go to the main intersection. I drove through that intersection on the way home and was stopped on the cross street at the red light. While I waited every truck that passed the demonstrators who were already there honked as they passed.
Later I talked to someone who stayed the whole time and she said that what I observed continued. Every truck that passed honked and waved.
I think the orange freak has lost one of his constituencies.

(12,412 posts)Hope they chime in. It would definitely be encouraging if some of the 80% of truckers who supposedly voted for trump were turning on him.
My skepticism is probably influenced by fact I live where 70+% voted for trump.

(1,936 posts)The traffic is 98% cars. But some concrete trucks came through and blew their horns for us. We were like a bunch of kids when those trucks honked. I know that i was just delighted. I don't know if this is doing any good but it sure feels good to be in a whole crowd of kind open minded people who aren't afraid to cuss.

(4,243 posts)In rapist's first term farm bankruptcies and suicides skyrocketed. He ate away at women's reproductive rights. Hundreds of thousands died of COVID in 2020. Yet here we are.
What's happening will likely work against him in the midterm elections like in 2018, but if a rapist v.2 emerges in 2028, they still have a chance. The hold the republican party has on cultural white voters is tight as a drum.

(14,795 posts)That is markedly not the case among the truckers I am personally familiar with. The hold AM radio has given the right over them is holding strong even in the face of a pretty ugly reality.
If freight collapses soon as some predict, that may make a dent, but until it hits them personally and hard, I'm pretty skeptical. And even then i'd be surprised if we saw wholesale change in support among that demographic, rather than just some denting here and there.

(6,766 posts)I was hoping for some feedback from truckers or people who know truckers. We were surprised by the reaction we were getting.
