My view is no, we will not survive 4 years of this.
And if those in power know that this is correct, how are they able to continue pretending this is normal, and acting like this is normal politics with "strongly worded letters", etc .?

(6,729 posts)I think we will ultimately survive, but I think it's going to be painful and ugly while we get through it.

(30,847 posts)If any congressional GOP member had done these things, most likely they would be out on their ass in the next election.
The key seems to be getting voters to hold the GOP Congress accountable for Trump's actions, which is why Dems holding town halls in red districts when THE GOP won't is, imo, a great idea.

(3,545 posts)Agreed.
The country will survive but as what, exactly likely with a weakened democracy and our democratic institutions undermined and vulnerable to another Trump.
Indeed, Trump will establish executive branch precedent, a template for the next Republican president to follow: how to abuse power, ignore the courts, and defy the rule of law with impunity how to get away with being an authoritarian despot and dictator.

The nation will dissolve? No, America will not dissolve.
We'll no longer be a 2-party Democracy? That's possible.
