"A free fall not seen in modern history": 100 days of destruction
Trump has been more aggressive in his efforts to destroy democracy than any other autocrat in recent decades

(Salon) Donald Trump has now been president (again) for 100 days. Trump is not a humble man. It should be no surprise that he is trumpeting his accomplishments very loudly. As Trump sees them, his great accomplishments include being a great man of history who has left an indelible mark on the trajectory of the United States and the world.
....(snip)....
Trumps views of his accomplishments are not shared by the American people. A series of public opinion polls have shown that across a range of major issues (the economy, immigration, democracy and the rule of law, safety and security, etc.) the American people view Trumps first 100 days very negatively, if not as being an outright disaster. In total, Donald Trumps polling numbers are the worst in 80 years for an American president at this early point in his tenure. For example, a new PBS News/NPR/Marist poll shows that a plurality of Americans give Donald Trump a failing grade, an F, for his first 100 days back in power. In a new poll from PRRI, a majority of Americans describe Trump as being a dictator. However, a new poll from Pew Research Center shows Donald that Trump is still loved by members of the (White) Christian right. Pews findings include how, In addition to approving of Trumps job, 57% of White evangelical Protestants say they trust what he says more than what previous presidents said while in office.
....(snip)....
In an attempt to gain a better perspective and insights on Donald Trumps first 100 days back in power, what may happen next, and what has already been lost, I reached out to a range of leading experts. I also asked them the following question: If these first 100 days of Trumps administration are indeed the good times as compared to what will come next, what do they want to prepare the American people for?

I am angry and upset over how Trump and his administration and MAGA are wrecking our economy, destroying the Western alliance, and removing America from its leadership position in the world. They are incompetent, vengeful and dont give a damn about the country. The country is less safe and less strong now because of what theyve done in the first 100 days.
....(snip)....
D. Earl Stephens is the author of Toxic Tales: A Caustic Collection of Donald J. Trumps Very Important Letters." His website is Enough Already.
.... At some point, Trump will do something so heinous so anti-America so dangerous that the people who truly love our country will be forced to participate in massive nationwide protests. That is in many ways the best case. The worst case is we just go quietly into the dark, gloomy night and become an authoritarian country, where we have zero rights or say in how we are governed. Its coming, sure as I am typing this. ................................(more)

(6,379 posts)It is hundreds, perhaps thousands of very bright, evil men and women from the Heritage foundation and other national groups who have planned this coup. Trump is just the figure head who gets to play with all his shinny toys to keep our attention. Think of a thousand Stephen Millers. We cannot let them win.

To the extent they've used this petulant manchild they've nothing more than bomb throwing anarchists and hardly capable of sensible management of achieving goals, no matter how nefarious such goals may be.

(6,379 posts)I think he has an obsessed following who will support him and his no matter what. Trump is doing an excellent job of keeping all eyes on himself even as he gets crazier and crazier. Maybe that's the point. All we see us the damage in front of us, which is considerable. We don't see the damage being done behind the scenes. Maybe these people aren't the brightest, but they are obsessed and that, I fear makes up for a lack of intelligence. However this chapter comes out our country will never be the same. The hope I have is that this insanity will push us to do better and we will be a better country and better people for it. Some days I think I'm whistling in the wind.

(3,739 posts)It seems he was electable. For some strange reason, a large enough percentage of the electorate found him charismatic, charming, funny, honest (???)
such that he now sits in the Oval Office. And the shadowy billionaires that backed him WILL get their precious tax cuts.
Im sure they wish they could have gotten a modicum of competence and decorum with the package, but they got enough.

(24,486 posts)We don't really know who is the power behind him. But the radical Republicans, the magas, play the long game and don't give up. What seems to be happening quickly now has likely been planned for years.
Meanwhile, Democrats have failed to be vigilant in protecting the nation against what has happened. We have been complacent and overconfident that what is happening now could never happen here. Until it does.

(12,166 posts)Even severe malignant narcissism is considered to be a personality disorder, not a mental illness, but power psychosis is a serious mental illness because it's what happens when a powerful person loses contact with reality. A Google search produced this AI-generated summary:
Key Aspects of Power Psychosis:
Loss of Touch with Reality:
Individuals may experience delusions of grandeur, believing they possess exceptional power, knowledge, or abilities.
Distorted Perceptions:
They might see others as smaller, less significant, or as obstacles to be overcome.
Reduced Empathy and Social Reasoning:
Power psychosis can lead to a decrease in the ability to understand or consider the perspectives of others.
Increased Risk-Taking:
Individuals may make decisions that are reckless or that disregard potential consequences.
Inflated Self-Confidence and Reduced Inhibition:
They may become overly self-assured and less concerned with social norms or consequences.
Causes and Consequences:
Unchecked Power:
The syndrome is primarily linked to prolonged exposure to high levels of power, where individuals are not held accountable or have little to no limitations on their actions.
Impact on Others:
The behavior of individuals experiencing power psychosis can be detrimental to those around them, leading to harm, manipulation, and injustice.
Potential for Abuse:
Power psychosis can contribute to the abuse of authority and the exploitation of others.
Distinction from Other Conditions:
While power psychosis shares some similarities with narcissistic personality disorder, it's not solely a character trait but rather a syndrome triggered by the circumstances of having unchecked power.
It's also important to differentiate it from clinical psychosis, which can be caused by various factors, including mental illness, substance abuse, or trauma.
In summary, power psychosis is a complex phenomenon where unchecked power can lead to a distorted view of reality and impaired judgment, potentially resulting in harmful actions and behaviors.

(24,486 posts)will learn to be vigilant and not complacent or overconfident. Ours was a sin of national pride because we didn't believe that what Trump has so quickly done could ever happen here because the Founding Fathers had all the checks & balances and Constitutional protections that would save us. The kind of stuff that is happening now only happens to lesser nations--NOT the United States of America. Until it does and it has.

(34,407 posts)he wouldn't know the first thing about the agencies being decimated. It takes a lot of someones with lots of knowledge to know where to aim the sledgehammers. It truly is the Republicans dream come true, and something they've been working towards for decades. It's the coupe de gras. Donald is the perfect front man for the crescendo of the long con. It's surprising how simple it all seems now. States with GOP proof majorities. Wealth and power up the yazoo to supply any thing needed to keep their foot on the pedal.

Frankly, I don't see how the country remains intact after this because it certainly cannot be called the "United" States when nothing other than geography unites us.
Sorry, Ben. We couldn't keep it.

(7,291 posts)Churchill stated at a conference that the British want ALL of their colonies back after the war. Stalin looked and Churchill, then Roosevelt, back at Churchill and said "All of them?" The two had a chuckle and Roosevlet said "Now I get it".

(4,251 posts)I seem to remember more of the teachings from the Bible,
than what THEY now ignore for POLITICAL reasons!!!!
Some of them now go so far as to say that the teachings of Jesus should be ignored---
because they are "too woke", and, God forbid--- sorta "socialist"!
Took them a long time to figure THAT out, didn't it???
What they worship now is The BEAST-- and a lot of them now wear his mark
on their foreheads....
