Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared in the White House Tuesday that Canada would not submit to U.S. ownership. Donald Trump, however, wouldnt back down. As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale, Carney said. Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign, its not for sale. It wont be for sale ever.
Never say never, Trump said, telling reporters that only time would tell while seated inches away from the Canadian leader. I had many things that people said were not doable but ended up being doable. Carney won Canadas top leadership post in April in large part due to his staunch position against Trumps growing threats to annex the country.
In the months leading up to the election, Canadas Liberal Party was believed to be on its deathbed. But that all changed with Trumps tariff talk, which radically ramped up anti-American sentiment amongst Canadian voters, alongside Trumps bizarre and public ambitions to occupy Canada.
Trump has actively aggressed U.S. relations with Canada since his first term. Recent rhetoric about annexing Canada to become the U.S.s 51st state has not played well with the Canadian people or its leaders, causing some residents of the country to candidly dub Trump an asshole.
This is a developing story.

(31,187 posts)I live up here with his loser base, and his oldest sons come up here a lot - UNFORTUNATELY.
Anyway, Canadians used to come down here A LOT, and they would of course start friendly conversations and ask friendly questions because - Canadians. They were always curious about our healthcare and every last one of them was blown away by the idea of being in debt for DECADES or losing your HOME because you or your child got sick. Americans of the elephant variety would always push for ground by saying Yeah but you get taxed to DEATH up there right?! They were always left pouting when the Canadians reported not paying more than we do really, and getting SO MUCH MORE out of it. I saw this over and over and over.
White hillbillies are getting mad about not getting anything for their money. DOGE has gone over great with the mouth-breathers for the same reason this stupid bullshit has. They think Daddy is going to go beat up the neighbor, take his cool bike and give it to them. Daddy doesnt give a shit, but he is having fun playing his base like the CHUMPS they are to get what he wants.

(60,140 posts)Trump's G-pa was all over the PNW during the Alaskan Gold Rush and the silver mining rush, making money from running hotels of a certain type.
He did it in Seattle as weii.
I was surprised to discover that he was given credit for building a hotel even up in Monte Cristo,in the Cascade Mountains north of Everett, Wash. There's an old silver mining camp up in the Cascades that was a favorite drive when I was younger. Hardly a flat building there, the ground is steep and crooked. But some old stores are there, a few camp houses, and overgrown mine entrance.
I did not know about Grandpa Trump's history in the area until reading about his during dodo's first term. Found it rather surprising. But it does explain family characteristics.

(minutes later) ...like Obama's Presidential Library...that's a disaster...he wanted to make sure the contractors he used were "woke," but they didn't know what they were doing...so it's a real mess...and on
Then he switches to Gavin "Newscum" -- We used to be great friends...but you know I'm a real estate developer...I know what I'm doing...Gavin built this crazy rail system out there...it's a disaster...just awful....and on
All the while, the camera picked up Carney's facial expressions -- rolling eyes, raising his eyebrows quizzically, even once bobbing his head as if to say, "I don't know about that." Trump was busy looking off to his left at the cooch couch where Marco and others were sitting, so he didn't see Carney's reactions.

(7,396 posts)I've long thought that everything trump does is rooted in terrorism. autocrats have to rule by fear; there is no other way. But doing it to a whole different country? That's straight-up terrorism, and *ought* to land us on some country's terrorist list... just like ISL, etc. I have wondered why in the hell some country hasn't attacked us yet. It's not only plainly evident, but is also blasted out to the world by the press that we have no national security apparatus any longer... even intelligence, itself, is defunct (in all ways!). We are a country ripe for the picking. I fully expect another 911 of some sort on his watch... which he'll, of course, promptly blame on Biden!

(2,188 posts)China doesn't give a shit about Trump. They hold all the cards. If Trump puts on tariffs, China will just deal with other countries, who are more than happy to do that, because they are all pissed at Trump. Trump has no idea the hole he has dug here. Trump has probably never done any of his own shopping in his life. There are little almost no ships headed to the US now. But the impact won't really be felt for 90 days. But mid-summer we are going to see a lot of empty shelves, and the goods that are available, will be 30-50% more expensive than they were on election day.
That's just one hole. He is digging another big hole with Canada. Once again, Canada can get along without us, mainly by importing more from Europe and Asia. That will cost Canadians, but they are virtually on a wartime footing now, which means that the average citizen is willing to do without in order to win the battle with the US. We already saw that in the huge reversal of election fortunes, resulting in Carney's election. That tells us Canadians know the stakes and are willing to make sacrifices.
But are Americans? The orange anus keeps telling Americans how great things are and will be. But prices are already going up. And we will soon see serious chaos in the housing market because so many of the building products come from Canada. Look for this market to go crazy by the end of summer, and hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of trades people being unemployed, or severely underemployed.
There are just a couple of the holes. The tariffs themselves will cause many other holes because this is not just China. Eventually Trump will get back to all the other tariffs where he has deferred the onset date.
And before we know it, hurricane season will be upon us, and once again, Florida will be begging for billions of taxpayer dollars as they do every year
