One doesn't have to be Catholic to appreciate a more benign product of America now presented to the world. This is a powerful and very welcome counterpoint. In all sincerity, may Leo XIV be a continuing reassurance.

(213 posts)was born and raised in Chicago in the United States of America (one of 3 countries in North America.) He also studied in Europe.
However, most of his service has been in Peru (South America) starting as a missionary and serving in all the posts up to cardinal.
So, in the inclusive use of the word, Pope Leo XIV is AMERICAN!
(If you ever visit south of the border, when asked where you are from, please do not say "America" as the people asking the question are also Americans. Say "The United States" or that you are a "Norteamericano."

(benefit of the doubt from me... 'cause we know it won't be a difficult decision, and crayola will have a very profitable week)
