VE Day today.

Dad and many uncles were soon on their way home. Uncle Patch was stabbed by a bayonet in the fighting in Italy, he survived to raise a huge family. Uncle Bob flew bombing missions in a Lancaster. Dad's cousin Donald was 21 when he was KIA at the Battle of Ortona.

Uncle Tony only ever talked about the enemy soldiers he killed, in the fierce fighting in the Netherlands, when he was very drunk. Grama said my dad was a changed man, for a few years after getting home, too quiet and rarely smiling.

Lest we forget.
