Bison Gores Man in Yellowstone National Park

The man, who had approached the animal, sustained minor injuries.

A bison gored a man in Yellowstone National Park on Sunday after the man approached the animal, according to the National Park Service.

The man, 47, who is from Cape Coral, Fla., sustained minor injuries and was treated by emergency medical staff. The incident, which is under investigation, is the fourth bison-related injury in the park since 2023 and the first this year.

Last year, an 83-year-old woman from South Carolina sustained serious injuries after being lifted about a foot off the ground by a bison’s horns.

Just months prior, a 40-year-old man, who was under the influence of alcohol, was injured after he harassed a herd of bison and kicked one of the animals in the leg.

Is there some "Pet the Bison" challenge out there on social media?

Wouldn't be surprised if Trump opened up bison hunting season at Yellowstone.

Yikes, don't give him any ideas.

The stupid in the park is there all year, every year.

I saw one couple try to put their toddler on the back of a bison. Saw a little yapper dog escape a car when the road was loaded with bison and caused a stampede. Saw one teenager (13 ish) chase after a bear cub with its mother 10 feet from it.

The list goes on.

get out of her car with a large bag of potato chips. The bag was open. She tilted the open bag toward a bear, as if she expected the bear to put his paw in the bag and fish out a pawfull of chips. How nice of her to share!

Other nature no-nos:

Don’t cuddle the rattlesnake

Don’t pet skunks

Don’t share a soda-pop with real polar bears.

but a few years back I saw one of a woman getting yeeted out of her jeans
by a bison. Fortunately she only suffered minor injuries. Possibly their only
interaction with bovines is with calves at petting zoos.

Probably tied with Lakeland for most Florida Man stories per capita. Uncertain how my son-in-law grew up to be normal there.

How hard is that to understand? You are on their turf. They are wild and unpredictable, and don't tolerate fools well.

I don't know if it's due to cutbacks and potentially not as many rangers driving around to remind people and keep large animals away from the roads, but some people don't understand just because an enormous elk remains calm if you're 50 feet away, that doesn't mean it won't spook or accidentally hurt you if you get up next to it or try to feed it. These are wild animals who might be placid and used to people at a distance, but they weigh hundreds of pounds and can potentially maim or kill you with one kick or jerk of the head if you get close enough.

Even if they don't intend to, they don't know their own strength.

They show other parks and natural areas too but focus on Yellowstone. In addition to animal encounters they show idiots walking up to geysers, stomping over the fragile crust, and other stupid behavior. It gets depressing in the comments when people defend the idiots.
