Why Magats get What They Want

The Big Beautiful Bill is going to get passed in Congress and signed into law, it is all but certain in my mind.

Why? All of the narratives, what we see on TV and in social media are about what do we have to cut to get a 4.7 trillion dollar tax cut for billionaires, so why would we not get that bill passed?

Waiting for Congressional Democrats, besides Bernie and AOC to make the argument that billionaires don't need more money, giving them so much money is a waste. it has been proven not to trickle down.

When are Congressional Democrats going to ask Magats, going to ask the American people at town halls the question of why do billionaires need more money?

Magats control the narrative because Democrats are terrible at messaging. maybe Democrats need to hire a new public relations director/firm?

Stop arguing about what needs to be cut. Free money to billionaires needs to be cut and that option isn't even on the table.

Welcome to the Horse and Sparrow economy where we feed the horse more oats so that the sparrows get plenty to eat.

1. It's more than Congressional Democrats.

It's the media as well.

Yes, there are online sites with well-considered and well-written essays.

Yes, there are broadcast media that serve our purposes like MSNBC and Progressive Voices and some isolated radio stations that have progressive hosts. NPR may be independent, but it stops short of progressive.

I've watched it happen in the New York City metropolitan area. In the late 90s, AM radio had three (three!) non-conservative radio stations: WABC, WWOR, and WEVD. Hosts like Lynn Samuels, Jay Diamond, Alan Colmes, Bill Mazer, Sam Greenfield. Rush was a newcomer who was tolerated at ABC. Then The Forward sold WEVD to WABC and didn't exist after September 1, 2001. WWOR went benign, and then conservative. WABC replaced Lynn Samuels with Sean Hannity. Yeah, there was WWRL and WLIB for a while, but they were fleeting. (Both stations hosted Air America for as long as it lasted.)

Now, save for FM's WBAI, which is totally listener-sponsored, there are no liberal, progressive radio stations in New York City and its region. NONE!

My point: I could see the future as WEVD left the airways. Control the message by eliminating the stations. And without a platform, Democrats can't get their message out. We can only rely on a few online sources, but how does that get the same message out to Independents? If Democrats can't be presented with MSM News, etc., where are they to go? It has to be disheartening.

2. You know I agree with you on this, gab13by13.

The answer you get is going to be, "But they own all the media outlets!1!"

Which has been the case for at least 30 years. And people seem to feel that saying this, and then wringing our hands, is an appropriate response to that situation. Which has brought us to where we are today.

After 30 years, we need to finally figure out a way around that. And there's plenty we can do to get around it.

I will say that the Democratic substack is a nice start. Everyone should be joining it, but I haven't heard about it anywhere but here in a thread that dropped like a stone. Every Democratic rep should be mentioning it every day, all the time, so we all know it exists and can join it and know how we can support them.
Here's the info on that: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=20304539

3. I get a dozen texts every day to donate to Democrats
Sat May 10, 2025, 07:36 AM

I choose to donate to Indivisible and the ACLU where I see people fighting.

All of those protests that Rachel Maddow showed on TV were mainly organized by Indivisible.

Malcolm Nance has jumped on board with his new FAFO pac. He is trying to get millions of people to protest on the day of Krasnov's dear leader parade.

If Congressional Democrats held town halls with one particular issue to discuss, and got big named people to be guests, the MSM will cover it.

Just imagine Democrats doing a town hall about SignalGate/NLRB Gate and got Malcolm Nance to moderate it and got big named people, (looking at you General Mattis) to attend, the MSM will cover it.

Time Matters though. How many times have I posted Time Matters?

There are Democrats like Chuck Schumer who are following the strategy to sit back and let Krasnov burn it all down and then Democrats will win the next election. That is a horrible strategy.

4. Absolutely no question that EVERY elected Democratic rep should be doing a town hall.

And there are tons of other things that we could do. Here are a few:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220104953

A new initiative that has recently occurred to me would be for all our reps to encourage a daily phone barrage to republiQan reps to stop trump. Only republiQans can do it at this point, so if every Democratic voter picked one republiQan rep, say, beginning with the Senate, regardless of whether you live in a repubiQan district, we could make their lives miserable.

But an initiative like that takes a central organizing figure or group to get it off the ground so those making the effort are not spitting into the wind.

5. The town hall that MSNBC did over the fired Federal workers

should have opened Democratic leaders to do more of the same.

I actually screamed when Schumer said on Chris Hayes show to let Krasnov burn it all down. Does he realize that burning it all down means burning down our democracy and ending up with a Dictatorship?

7. Part of the reason is that many of our Democratic Senators and Representatives

Are bought and paid for by the same billionaires and corporations that bought and paid for MAGAt Senators and Representatives. Their silence and lack of action in these matters is the price we all pay.

9. "Both sides are equally bad", AKA "false equivalence"
Sat May 10, 2025, 08:45 AM
May 2025

One of many rhetorical tactics used to weaken opposition movements. There is no evidence to support that the current Democratic party has the degree of graft and corruption as the current Republican party. There may be isolated cases, but definitely not equivalent.

In bothsidesism, false information and ill-formed arguments may be presented as equally valid responses to arguments based in reality. Bothsidesism in journalism makes it difficult for audiences to differentiate between baseless claims and rigorous reporting, all while simultaneously legitimizing bad actors.

8. Tariffs Are The Largest Tax Increase In History
Sat May 10, 2025, 08:33 AM
May 2025

You'll never hear a Democrat or the M$M say this. And that's the problem.

Personally, I think if Congress passes this budget and addresses the debt limit there will be huge holes in the budget. Tariff taxes aren't going to offset the revenue loses from this billionaire tax cut and gutting the IRS. There are going to be all kinds of ways companies and people are going to adapt to thwart tariff collections not to mention the government infrastructure is not developed or in place to collect every dime owed via tariffs. Like prohibition, there are going to be lots of opportunities to smuggle goods across the boarder to avoid the tariffs.

As I said, we are going to be bleeding money in a few short months. It's got to come from somewhere and that somewhere is the bond market. With the world pissed off at us, I expect less desire to invest in US debt, which means interest rates on US debt will have to go up. If we can't raise money with our bonds, we are in a load of hurt and if this plays out I have no idea what will happen.

10. Tariff money doesn't end up in the treasury

it is paid by the company and passed on to the consumer. The only thing that happens with tariffs is that goods cost more.
