(6,814 posts)Especially if they are so insecure, thin skinned and easily threatened by a strong, intelligent woman of color.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)that think name calling is juvenile, stupid and reflects poorly on the person (whatever gender or color) doing the name calling?
Are they good potential coalition partners?
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)too easily triggered by an intelligent woman.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)and is name calling a sign of intelligence?
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)who are acting like snowflakes and pretending to be offended by an intelligent, strong woman of color.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)I think she needs to moderate the name calling. 'Hot wheels' ...... 'white boy'.
Name calling isn't a very strong argument and diminishes her message which I agree with.
Name calling is ...... Republican.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)She used a common expression in her community and people threatened by an intelligent woman of color are pretending to be offended. Same crap pulled by republicans and FAUX News for decades.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)Not acceptable in polite company given the context.
How about 'hot wheels'?
Also a common expression in her community? It's not in mine.
We don't have to be like them.
I suspect she'll learn to moderate herself. That's what I would expect from an intelligent person because I do believe she is an intelligent person.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)What are we in the gilded age again?
Of some would like that. Its when uppity black women knew their place and never say anything to upset insecure white men.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)I'm no historian but I don't think racial epithets were forbidden back then.
Commonplace, actually. Acceptable.
Decent folks make an effort to address people in the way that they prefer. Pronouns or whatever that happens to be.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)nor was she addressing anyone specifically. So dont pretend that she was just to feign offense.
stillcool
(34,407 posts)to worry about their votes in red states. Funny how that works. If white boys is so offensive in this country, with its history of white boys, then this country is beyond repair. Not because of the current administration, but because of the people who get upset about 'white boys'. Play that funky music....
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)other than.....what?..........isn't a great way to win in a Democracy.
That compute for you?
What percentage of voters is OK to give away so you can call them whatever name you want? Because......historical injustice gives you the right to be offensive?
1%? 2 or 3%?
White men are around 30% or the US population.
News flash......Democrats are under performing with that demographic.
Got to learn to defeat and deflect bro culture to win elections.
Or wait another 20 years until demographics catch up.........but no ironclad promises there for Democrats.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)who wouldnt vote for a democrat anyway. And democrats have been under performing with white men for decades. So dont pretend that Crockett had anything to do with it.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)she just isn't helping.
What man of ANY race wants to be called boy?
I was just suggesting.....in the gentlest, most non-confrontational possible way......
that leaders need to lead everyone.
Not just those they deem worthy.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)She didnt call anyone boy. She just used a generic expression in a general discussion. And anyone who wont vote for a democrat because a representative from another district used the word boy when Trump and republicans are destroying our democracy, wouldnt vote for democrat anyway. Those offended are choosing to be offended as an excuse to slam a woman of color because they are threatened by her and others like her.

(2,265 posts)Kind of seems like you are.
Bit rude. Probably against the rules here but I'm not thin skinned so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Still, not cool.
What state do you live in? Just curious to give our shared experience context. Also grew up in the 70s.
Calling a man of any race 'boy' in the wrong context is a quick way to escalate an argument where I live.
North central NC.

(34,407 posts)I've lived in 5 states, most in the northeast. The very idea that 'white boy' could possibly have the same inference as calling a black man a 'boy', is preposterous. Calling any man a 'boy' would not have the same meaning as calling a black man a boy, but it would be demeaning or derogatory regardless of race. Finding a white boy to run for President is what we need to do, if we want to win in states that won't vote for any other species. Do you not recall the inference of 'white boys'? There is no way anyone who breathed the same air as me in high school in New York would come to that conclusion.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)It's not the same but they do intersect.
Which isn't to say she's wrong. We'll probably end up with a white boy......but he'll be our white boy not theirs.
stillcool
(34,407 posts)played the song " play that funky music white boy", which they all went nuts over. Especially Donald Jr. Funny how things change.
Keepthesoulalive
(2,120 posts)If using the word boy will cause some males not to vote, thats on them. We have a madman in the White House who is going to cause a depression. Lets focus on the immediate threat . Mountain folk use the term for black and white people, we deal with it.
SocialDemocrat61
(6,814 posts)a representative from another district said boy. This is just an excuse to beat up on her.

(2,120 posts)I am sick of being told to be better than people who want to destroy me. Someone said white boy not to you but as a requirement to be the next president and you became offended. Try being a minority or a woman and you will have worse said to your face.Im tired and angry at the people who put that racist monster in the White House and that is what I am focused on.
Red Mountain
(2,265 posts)I'm not offended. I'm just pointing out that some percentage of the voting population WILL find it offensive......that otherwise would vote with us. The margins have been very tight.
Why the self-own?
Im tired and angry at the people who put that racist monster in the White House and that is what I am focused on.

(2,120 posts)Is speaking out. Black folks have always had to watch what they say , they might offend the dominant culture. Dont braid your hair perm it, dont wear your ancestral colors, dont stand up and speak out you may lose your job. I am proud to say young black folks dont give a fig and they are speaking truth. If white males are offended they need to check where they are coming from because if you are so offended you will vote for a rapist and convicted felon, you were never an ally.
