(114,722 posts)I'm delighted for Justice Riggs and for all the people who had the good sense to vote for her.
I'm smugly delighted that a cousin of mine who moved there years ago is one of those with an exploding head. He married a fundagelical and together they've been GOP movers and shakers in the NC city they live in. I never liked him when we were kids, so I'm happy to imagine his extreme displeasure at this. Good.
So thanks for the visuals, Justice Riggs, and I hope you will have a long and illustrious tenure on the NCSC bench and that you will be joined by other sensibly patriotic Justices who have also read and are willing to uphold the constitutions of both the US and NC.

(8,030 posts)So brave! Stalwart! I hope she's safe from the RW religious psychos. Kooks and racists every one of 'em! You know, republicans.

(11,647 posts)Sorry, the thought that my home state, given its current history, would notice anything other than the fact that the 'libs won and we need to make sure she suffers!' is funny to me.

(2,845 posts)Wonderful Allison Riggs won but it simply maintened the status quo ante of a 5 to 2 republican majority in the North Carolina Supreme Court. And we know how that rolls, may as well preach in a desert, Allison.
As well, the republican house has either a veto proof majority or one shy, meaning, go preach in that North Carolina desert, dems.
The shining spot is the democratic North Carolina governor, defeated that weirdly pro abortion candidate handily - you know: (you want abortion) "cause you couldn't keep your skirts down",
Yeah that guy on major nightly news, lucky he did not withdraw or it would be a total right wing desert. Winning governorship next cycle will not be so easy.
I would not live in North Carolina for anything.

(12,852 posts)To have the best shot flipping the court at the earliest opportunity, which is 2028, keeping this seat is a good start.
