Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz sought to energize activists at a Democratic state convention in South Carolina, as the partys 2024 vice presidential nominee works to keep up the high national profile he gained when Kamala Harris selected him as her running mate.
Walz, a former schoolteacher who went on to serve in Congress and then became his states governor, keynoted the South Carolina gathering in Columbia, traditionally a showcase for national-level Democrats and White House hopefuls. Speaking to convention delegates for more than half an hour, Walz used colorful language and spoke plainly as he lobbed criticism at President Donald Trump and called on his fellow Democrats to have the courage to stand up to the bully in the White House.
Maybe its time for us to be a little meaner, Walz said, to applause from the crowd. When its a bully like Donald Trump, you bully the s- out of him. ... This is a ... cruel man.
It was Walzs third set of large-scale remarks in less than 24 hours for Walz, who, along with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, spoke Friday night at the partys fundraising dinner, as well as an after-party fish fry hosted by Rep. Jim Clyburn.

(26,254 posts)Also, last night I attended Jim Clyburns Famous Fish Fry. Maybe pics and more comments in a day or so.
BTW: Most of the convention speakers, including Tim Walz, figured out a sure-fire way to get a big laugh from the audience. Just say NANCY MACE and hilarity ensued, every time.

(2,248 posts)I wish we could have had 2012 Biden as president because I think he would have decimated Trump a second time.
He knew how to throw a zinger out there that rocked an opponent. Hell, his joke about Giuliani only knowing three words: a noun, a verb and 9/11 is still hilarious 20 years later.

And I don't crave it as an afternoon pick-me-up.
But I think of it like broccoli: You may not care for it, but it's good for you in the long run.

(5,041 posts)It's well past time the public is made aware of who the real evil enemy of the people is, and that's the Republican party. That its the Democrats who won't force the women of this country to bear a rapist's baby, or allow your LGBTQI family or friends to be discriminated against or brutalized without consequences, we won't kick your parents or grandparents out of Nursing Homes, and expect unqualified family members to care for them, we will make sure hospitals stay open, make sure vaccines are available to all who want them, and make sure public education remains for your kids. That quote of one of tsf's quote saying everyone is going to die, should be a tv add run all over the country on as many outlets as possible. And with a powerful voice over asking are these people really who you want in control of your family's future? No more sacchrine sweet ads like Gillibrand ran, "I can reach across the aisle and get bipartisan legislation passed. " How's that working for you Senator? Are you going to stop them from cutting Medicaid or Medicare through bipartisan? You're not there to make nice with the cult. You were elected to fight for the American people, and that starts by saying loud and clear every chance you get that the Repulicons don't care if you live or die, unless you're a billionaire willing to buy your survival, with payoffs to them.
