I have a walker with a seat, so I could probably make it for a minute... But I'm also not sure about going by myself. I think it will be a lot of familiar faces and locals and maybe even hispanic families I have loved as I worked in schools etc...
I really wanna show solidarity... Mostly I'm afraid of my physical limitations and being alone is not good when you're not able to run...
Our police aren't usually agressive...but we also have the area for gathering right next to the highway and people will be trolling and throwing things at cars could happen, or vice versa. Can't talk about it in our local FB group without being screamed at and insulted by magas, they have to turn off comments.
Who's doing what tomorrow??? Should I just bite the bullet and go?

I can't go either due to mobility issues & the fact that i get really sick very quickly in the heat, so I feel your frustration.

(10,207 posts)The media was impressed with all the people that were out there with walkers - it made national news. This was a protest against the Iraq war.

(22,652 posts)Where I live we have several volunteer groups that can give individual rides. And since volunteers tend to be more, ahem, liberal good-hearted folkes, they may be planning to go to an event anyway.
Check your senior center or Council on Aging. I'm guessing the Tahoe area has a lot of good people.
Good luck!

If ICE or NG starts shooting bullets you cannot protect yourself or run quickly.
Yes other bad actors might pose a threat as well.
I am also concerned you might pose a safety hazard to other people.
If someone stops to help you, they are in harm's way.
Or your walker blocks the way preventing escape for others.

(79,782 posts)Another concern I have for myself is that I am older with osteoporosis.
If I am pushed and fall, I would probably break a bone.
I am also concerned that if things go badly at the event, the paramedics
will be called to treat a lot of people. If they are treating me, a young person might not get
medical care at the scene.

Keep the spirit my friend, we will walk for you.
Us vets are good about caring and fighting for those that can not, to fight for what this country is suppose to be.
Watch and be proud of all that care for the Nation.

(2,751 posts)this time. I've got my sign and I'm ready.
I am in good health though, and understand that those who have mobility issues have more to think about, understandably. But at the last march, I saw people in wheelchairs with signs, waving at and supporting those of us passing them by. If you can do that - comfortably and easily - then I'm sure your local marchers would love to see you as they pass by.

(22,715 posts)I'll know many of the people who join the protest. We are in an almost 100% white community, in a red county, red state, so I don't expect scrutiny from i c.e. or fbi, at least I hope not.
Once I get to the protest, I'll do what I can and support others who can do more
I have room on my sign, thought I'd make a border showing is with me in spirit. I have multi- colored pipe cleaners, thought I could punch holes across the bottom and twist a bit of pipe cleaner through. Be a subtle reminder of Pride as well

(38,282 posts)These organized protests are generally extremely orderly (aside from people driving up and down the route honking horns). Most have peacekeepers to help ensure it stays orderly.
Stay away from anyplace you suspect people might throw things - but my guess is it will be a party-like atmosphere, and it will do you good to find like-minded people.
I am amazed at how many people apparently have no experience with organized demonstrations and are afraid to go, or afraid to sign up. I've been to dozens starting when I was somewhere shy of 10 years old. I went to one just after the end of the Vietnam war with my grandfather. I've been to two since Trump took office. Not a single hint of violence at any of them. You do have added reasons to be cautious - it is challenging to navigate in a walker in a crowd. If you think you can navigate in a walker in a friendly crowd, don't let the fear of violence or people running keep you away.
That said - don't feel obligated to go. We all do what we are capable of doing - and when some of us step back, others step forward.

(60,320 posts)Every bit helps, but you don't have to go. We benefit from a healthy you more than an extra sign or person at the protest. All the same, every person at the protest helps and inspires.

(425 posts)I want to go, but my husband would not be able to walk from the public parking garage to the demonstration, and I won't leave him behind. I'm so pissed that this protest is at River Park Square. There is no place to park on the streets surrounding the park, the parking garage only has 1,300 spaces and the only way you can see this protest is by being there. Hopefully the local media will cover it. The last protest (Hands-Off) against the fascist pig started in a neighborhood park and spilled out onto a very busy street. It was so visible to everyone!

I loved seeing people older than me out there in years past, and I aim to be there again!!
Meanwhile, I'll be cheering on everyone who can go!!
