"A long, hot summer"

Does anyone else remember this description of summers of rioting in the 60s? The media repeated it like the unrest was a seasonal act of nature. I was a teen then. The memory came to me last night after I turned off the news.

I remember as a kid wondering what the big deal about jaywalking was, as the message was the riots started over a jaywalking arrest. Ah, the innocence of youth.
