https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jun/13/israel-says-attack-on-iran-just-the-beginningIranian missiles have rained down on Tel Aviv in retaliation to Friday mornings surprise aerial assault by Israel, as Tehran vowed to open the gates of hell.
Benjamin Netanyahu warned more is on the way and said Israels attempt to destroy Irans nuclear programme was just beginning.
Late on Friday, Iran and Israel reported a new wave of Iranian missile attacks, with explosions heard over Jerusalem. In northern Tehran, residents reported fresh explosions as Irans state news agency, IRNA, said Israel had launched further strikes.
An Israeli military spokesperson said earlier that Iran had fired up to 100 missiles in waves earlier in the evening, and that most had been intercepted or missed their intended target, but several appeared to penetrate Israels multi-tiered defences.

(37,369 posts)I have students with "contracts" that routinely think of them as a means to a short-term end.
Then, having FAed, they FO. "You lied to me." "Didn't think you were serious. But I didn't lie! Don't diss me!" "You said X, did Y, how's that not a lie?" < silence. >
Iran was found in ways that the UN didn't condemn to break sanctions/compliance. Even Obama said as much. Then again, it's a low bar to condemn Israel and a high bar to condemn Israel.

(12,180 posts)What was October 2024, when Iran launched about 200 ballistic missiles at targets in Israel?
Also in April when Iran fired around 170 drones, over 30 cruise missiles, and more than 120 ballistic missiles at Israel?
Weren't those also acts of war?
They did. I thought Israel is still bombing Gaza into non-existence because of 10/7/24. Now they preemptively bombed Iran to kill leaders and scientists. You cant whitewash who started this war.

(59,737 posts)While he has not specifically mentioned sympathy for Israel back home (i.e. Iran), he did say that the regime was pretty much universally despised by the people these days.
He also said that sanctions were a joke, and that apart from Israel, Iran is trading freely, under false-flag invoicing and shipping, with most other countries in the world, including our own. In Iran, he says, thats not even an open secret. Its just open. My Iranian friends here are in Berlin, at the other end of Germany, so we dont see each other every day.

You can bet if another country launched 200 ballistic missiles at the US we would think that was a declaration of war.
why keep trying to justify this? Israel bombed Iran and it's absurd to think Iran wouldn't fire back. Why didn't Israel strike back when Iran fired the missiles in April? And - October 2024 was blamed on Hamas and Israel is bombing Gaza into non-existence. And trying to call all this "self-defense." I don't see it that way.
All sides are wrong in a conflict such as this. Iran was in negotiation talks so why did Bibi decide to start this war?

(1,214 posts)Israels latest attack is concerned with Irans nuclear development, at a time when Irans negotiations with the Trump administration was ongoing. Its no use gaslighting; Israel is clearly the aggressor here. The only question involves the role of the US/Trump administration. Was the US a "silent partner"? Did it deceive Iran's negotiators?
