OK, so we cut millions of Americans off of Medicaid. Then what?

These folks will still be getting sick and need medical care.

Hospitals and doctors, following the law and Hippocratic Oath, will still accept and treat indigent patients, at least in emergency situations.

Which brings up the question: Who is going to pay for these services?

Answer: The people who have insurance, of course.

Hospitals and doctors will raise their rates to recoup the losses from treating nonpaying patients and charge those rates to the insurance companies.

This leaves the insurance companies no choice but to raise the rates on their paying customers.

So when our healthcare premiums go through the roof, we can thank the Republicans.

Same thing will happen with FEMA cuts and auto and homeowner's insurance.

I haven't heard Democrats frame it this way, but I believe they should.

Thanks to EMTALA if you show up at the emergency room they have to see you whether you have insurance or not. GOP politicians want that gone so hospitals can go back to dumping the indigent in Skid Row like they used to.

will pass a law invalidating EMTALA and they can put the dying out on the street if they don't have insurance.
