Brad Lander was released from ICE custody

https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/brad-lander-arrested/

So I guess that's good. Although it's tough to be happy about anything considering...everything.

...even for citizens. ICE agents need to start going to prison for this crap if we ever want to see an end to it.

for asking for ID and paperwork. They had no legal authority to kidnap anyone.

What he did was expose the fact they have no legal warrant to arrest anyone, any they got all butt hurt and attacked him.

I hope NY will start arresting ICE thugs. Even if they have ID. Treat them just like they are treating the people they are kidnapping..

are legit? In public places and in groups, odds are they're on-the-level, but at some point, the sex/drug traffickers can dress like these anonymous officers and other crimes will occur.

If these ICE agents and Noem are unaccountable, then this will keep happening.

10. That's not generally how a federal arrest works

He was arrested and then released. There weren’t any charges to be dropped since he’s not officially charged with anything yet. The SDNY just stated that they will investigate and determine if charges will be filed and/or brought before a grand jury for indictment. Could take a few days or weeks for that, just like with the NJ ICE facility indictment.

What does this statement mean?

Lander was released several hours later. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said charges against him have been dropped.

The federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York issued a statement after Hochul’s saying they would be investigating the incident. They are the ones that will ultimately decide on filing charges and seeking an indictment from a federal grand jury.

That’s why Hochul’s statement didn’t make much sense, federal arrests typically go before a grand jury before charges can be formally filed, there weren’t any charges to be dropped yet. It’s also not up to the federal agents who arrested him to file or drop charges, they can release him after the arrest and gathering his information, but formally filing charges would go through the SDNY office.

I found an article -i think courthouse news, describing what you said.

Still, one of the first comments explains that no proof of authorization, or justification for the arrest, exists. Which I guess is part of the reason he was released so quickly.

If they could not provide proof of authorization, I cant imagine they will have much to charge him on.
